driving to austria - any advice please?

Don't think anyone mentioned the 'vignette' needed to drive in Austria on the autobahns. Similar rules apply if using Swiss motorways too, but not such a good deal, as you have to pay a year's worth for one trip! Gotta get the stickers though. Big fines if you get caught without one!

PS:  I still have a very good set of winter tyres, they need a new home. Nokian 205/55 R16 94V XL (used on one winter and perfect nick) at a bargain price!!!
The Magic Ski Hotel in La Massana does not have it's own hire shop, but there are any number of them and at least two ski schools in the town. I would Google La Massana and take your pick, as I would not be able to recommend one over the other (I didn't need to use them). J2ski has a deal with SkiSet, BTW

The north of Spain and Andorra received snow down to 1000 metres today, and more is expected tomorrow, with the temperatures forecasted as falling for the next few days. Most ski resorts in Spain & Andorra plan to open next weekend, 4th - 5th Dec as it is a public holiday and an important boost to their revenues.

Let's see!
There have been some excellent suggestions already, but here's another. Is's Arinsal, in Andorra. A gondola lift which is never too high above the ground takes you from the village to the first ski level where there are two or three beginners slopes and then relatively easy progression slopes. Good luck and I hope you have fun anyway!

I'm home now, and just realising how bad the accident was yesterday. The section that collapsed was close to the existing CG314 roadway, new tunnels are being connected to La Massana by this new bridge. While driving past the area, there were traffic delays and emergency lighting, but it was hard to see or appreciate just what had happened. I didn't think any more of it until watching news at breakfast. We stayed in the Abba Xalet Suites, on the mountain just above the construction site, but away from the town centre.
Condolences to the injured and killed workers families and friends.
