First Snow 2011/12
Started by 4x4 in Spain, discussing Formigal
The snow arrived at last in parts of the Pyrenees this weekend. Formigal has received about 30 cm and this is the first significant fall of the new season. The weather has been so warm recently, it was looking as if the snow would not arrive at all!

:D
I flew to Prague last week and this was the view out of the window over the Alps on Sunday 23 Oct '11......

I was thinking of asking for a parachute, as it looked so good to be down there!

Looking forward to winter!

Freeride in Vall d'Arán

Hi there!

I don't know if this video has been picked up elsewhere on the forum, but as it was recorded in the north of Spain, I will post it here. This video is about the local free-riders who live in the Vall d'Arán area of the Pyrenees mountains. This region has it's own language and so the movie is subtitled in Aránes!
Some of the interviews are quite long, but be patient as there are some spectacular scenes in between :) It runs for nearly half an hour, so make a bit of time and see if you enjoy the scenery and action as much as I did!

All the best!

Never been , but heard a lot of good reports, some of the best ski areas in Spain. And this week a good amount of new snow means conditions should be great. A 'taster' video:

Méribel to get Google Street View Pistes
Started by User in France, 3 Replies
I was reading that Méribel won a promotion to have it's ski runs photographed by a snowmobile equipped with a Google street view camera this week. It will be interesting to see the results. The individual runs will temporarily be closed while the snowmobile is working on them.
Whistler and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic slopes were already recorded in the same way, the story says. Here's the video that was with the story:

Thanks for the update. It's very cold this weekend, so the cannons have been working overtime! Glad you had a good day, too.
