I don't own slippers

My ski boots are like slippers, and have been since the day I bought them. Let's hear it for rear entry boots! 8)

My feet feel like they belong in the boot. Everything touches, but there is no cramping feeling.

That's a nice description to give someone on how a boot should feel.

You mentioned Ellis Brigham. I used to hang around his shop in Cathedral street, when I was a hard up skier/mountain walker. Skied on his dry ski slope, about 20ft long, under a railway arch!

Ellis is a kind man. I look after the grave of a Manchester guy that died skiing in Niederau, early 70's. The chap was a friend of Ellis, and when it came to an expensive grave restoration a couple of years ago, Ellis was very helpful.
What RossF really means to say is that most of the time, most of Scotland looks good, I mean, but really good.

Couple of years ago, I walked the Fife Coastal path, 96 miles. Going through one industrial village, a really run down place, the two most active businesses appeared to be the solicitors, (specialist in divorces), and the undertakers. Depressing.

But on the way, we passed a sandbank with 600+ seals, beautiful beaches and rock formations, climbed the chain walk, and fishing villages that haven't changed in hundreds of years.

Trencher, thanks for your tech-help....at least until I try.

It was tricky enough for me to get a couple of pictures onto photob. So, when you said "don't link to an image from an album", what should I be doing?

The second picture, which I intend to be the first of a two part sequence, is of a guy that worked in Niederau, in the same seasons as me. The second picture is a corker, wedged in snow to the armpits. Watch this space, although it may be some time!

I have an even better one to post, it's a fall, (a ski buddy), it may be the best photo I ever took

As for "who is the artist", I'm afraid twas me,

This is the Bichlwirt, a 500+ year old pub at the top end of Niederau. It has an interesting history. My friend Herbert still plays the Harp there on most nights. Sad to say, when in Niederau, I am to be found there just about every night.

There's worse to come. When I really get to grips with this new-fangled photobucket, there are more paintings of Niederau. Help me at your peril!

Bandit, your'e a BAD girl!

This weekend I will be fixing the tennis clubhouse roof, then dashing back to see to my broken-legged OH. Then Sunday, will be laying slabs at son no 2 house, then dashing back....da-di-da....washing, ironing, cooking, cleaning, attending tennis AGM, probably getting put back on the committee...blah, blah.

We have just under 4 weeks to go in plaster. There is NO WAY I am going to attempt to get my boots out of the loft in this situation.

Fortunately, twas on the Beeb news that the runs are narrow and only for experts. So, watering the plants it is, then.

what I'd pointed out and Dave blatted was that this is a totally spurious comparison, the statutory basis of mountain rescue is totally unrelated to health insurance. If it were related then your comparison would be wrong anyway as I'm pretty sure you're mistaken about how mountain rescue works in Europe, for that matter I'm not entirely sure you're aware how it works in the UK especially for helicopters.

Ise, how unkind!

Spurious? I made it clear that I did not understand the differences. What I was attempting to do was open the gate to understanding. In the UK, we are, in general, blessed with fairly useless, ill-educated politicians. They arrive at policies that will allow extradition of suspects from the UK to the USA without evidence, and without reciprocation. At least that policy is clear. EHIC is not clear, in detail, and it should be.

I am surprised at the word that you use, because I have a healthy respect for your grasp of issues, Swiss and Euro knowledge, and you frequently give good information pointers.

What I highlighted was that in general, UK citizens do not understand what they will get from the EHIC protocol.

With regard to "the statutory basis of mountain rescue is totally unrelated to health insurance." Is there a "statutory basis of mountain rescue"?

I agree that this should be the case. However, within the past two years, I have been involved in a case where the Alpingers refused to release the Ackier, because the Unfall was "outside the stated piste area" The guy had to plead for an emergency number, which he called directly from his mobile, in order to get helicopter assistance.

From this and other experiences, I am not sure that one could conclude that there is a standard methodology in European mountain rescues, and I make no attempt to state that. Like you do now, I used to take part in ski accident rescues, setting leg breaks, bringing down the Ackier.

If you want to do a genuine comparison you need to factor in the mandatory premiums we pay in Europe for health insurance and the premiums we pay for accident insurance.

This is part of the lack of understanding, and lack of clarity that I was highlighting. You obviously understand how Switzerland operates, and I'm sure that you are clued up on France. But in the UK, information on this kind of thing is weak.

Wanderer highlighted this well. Bandit re-inforced with the 3V example.

I repeat, I don't understand the meaning of the EHIC, and I found very little constructive to help.

You might achieve the same at Hillend? :-)
