Don't drink much in the way of alchohol in the first couple of days, :( the resort height is nearly 3000m, and the skiing almost 4000m.
Wear bright colours, so your mates can see you in thee white out conditions. :-) |

This is a real bummer. One of my most treasured analysis sites, the Iglu snow history, has been watered down. You could previously get 5 or 6 years snow history. They now claim 4 years history, but only show two years.
Anyway for what info they give, here it is: http://www.igluski.com/austria/st-anton-snow-history_3306 You can of course, re-set for any resort. Iglu get their info from Ski Club of GB, and it may be that organisation that has pulled the rug a little. Anyone know of any other snow history sites? |

This was meant as a reminder to J2skiers. However, it has raised issues that I don't understand.
Imagine an Austrian, Swiss or French person is walking in the Lake District. They have a fall and say it is of leg break seriousness. They will be attended by our mountain rescue, helicoptered out, if this is appropriate, and have their injury treated. I believe that all of this would be free of charge, especially if they can produce an EHIC. (Not that our NHS has any computer system that could read an EHIC card.) Is it not the case that membership of the EU should ensure genuine reciprocation? |

I can personally recommend the Gansleit. You get well looked after by Steve, who is English, and his Austrian wife, Rosi.
You can ski in, just, but unless there is some new lift, there is no ski out from anywhere in Soell. There is a regular bus service. According to the Crystal brochure, the Gansleit costs around £80 a week more than the Bergland. However, you are only going for a weekend ,so the difference may be minimised. Almost all the accomodation is Austria is good quality, so really you are only looking at location & price. Surely, for a couple of days, facilities (ie being able to dip your toe into a 6ft x 5ft pool) don't come into it. You should be able to get a b&b pension for 20 to 30 Euros a night. Start with the tourist office web site. If you get stuck, Ellmau and Going are worth checking out. In fact the other side of the Skiwelt is also good, Hopfgarten, Brixen, and Westendorf. You can now access Kitzbuhle on the extended lift pass. I do like Soell though. Take a walk through the church, and you are looking at one of the best art galleries. |

Sorry Ian, I misunderstood. I thought that you bought on the net.
In general, it has been the case that you can still book with the TO when you are on the transfer bus. However, trying to look behind the minds of the TOs, now that the £ is in decline against the Euro, they may just withdraw this facility. Just to make the decision process a little easier: Check the 6 day pass cost on the local toursit office website. In this case 181.5Euros Look at your tour operator lift pass cost. In this case £130. Divide 181.5 by 130. You would need to get 1.4 Euros to the £. Do you see that happening? Two other aspects ~ Check what you are getting for your £130 offer, In this case, is it a kitzbuhle pass as well? (most unlikely, but worth checking), also, ~ consider that when booking with the TO, you don't have to queue at the lift office. |

Right, Ian, so you are first to the bar.
Great. What's everyone having? |
