Planning a long weekend, probably to Soll, in early January or mid-March.

Stayed in the Bergland Hotel last year - very nice and great location (virtually ski-in ski-out and also a short walk into town for a few beers in the evening). However, would like to see if we can find something a little less expensive.

Anyone got recommendations for reasonable priced, good quality accommodation - hotel or pension - that is in centre of village or close to main gondola?

I can personally recommend the Gansleit. You get well looked after by Steve, who is English, and his Austrian wife, Rosi.

You can ski in, just, but unless there is some new lift, there is no ski out from anywhere in Soell. There is a regular bus service.

According to the Crystal brochure, the Gansleit costs around £80 a week more than the Bergland. However, you are only going for a weekend ,so the difference may be minimised.

Almost all the accomodation is Austria is good quality, so really you are only looking at location & price. Surely, for a couple of days, facilities (ie being able to dip your toe into a 6ft x 5ft pool) don't come into it.

You should be able to get a b&b pension for 20 to 30 Euros a night. Start with the tourist office web site.

If you get stuck, Ellmau and Going are worth checking out. In fact the other side of the Skiwelt is also good, Hopfgarten, Brixen, and Westendorf. You can now access Kitzbuhle on the extended lift pass.

I do like Soell though. Take a walk through the church, and you are looking at one of the best art galleries.
