Scotland, a skiing nation with five resorts, does not have a February break! There are two really useful weeks in October. Good political planning! |

Am I right that you and your man hang out in Bobos for apres, Skigirl? Just that I saw your photo with Michael Unger. I don't really apres in the village, it's the wrong end of town for me. I normally have last drink at the mountain top, & then ski down to the top end of the village. Prepared to make an exception though, to meet up with a J2skier. :-) |

Not within a smell of the records in Austria. There was a better winter just 4 years ago, when the lifts opened in Hopfgarten in October.
Niederau 2005/6 Upper slopes, cm Jan 149, Feb 156, Mar 129 Niederau 2008/9 Upper slopes,cm Jan 90, Feb 123, Mar 250 Wel Ok, a bit of liberty with March 09, but I'm gonna grab what there is. Next year will mark my 40th years since I started skiing in N., and I can recall several winters better than 2005/6. The whole of the Kitsbuhle Alpen had a better year on 05/06 than this year, so far! |

Several seasons in Niederau early seventies. Just went, lived for £0.30 b&b, and found bits and pieces of work, as long as I could ski all day. Then started working for the ski school.
In theory, it should be easier now than then. Good ideas from Dorset boy. As I see it, the strength of chalet stuff is that after breakfast, you work like crazy to clean the place, get the food organised for the evening, then take off skiing. It's important to choose the resort first, then go for the jobs. |

Hi Bluemoon,
From Munich Airport, you can travel to Worgl in the Inn Valley, Austria. Time about 2h 15m. Cost about 28 Euros each way. Go to the travel centre at Munich Airport. Don't prebook. The 17th March is a Tuesday, so no need to book a train seat. You may have to change trains once or twice, but you will be given an itinery with your ticket, detailing platforms and times. Come out of Worgl station, get a taxi to Niederau. For a short stay, with great service, English owners, try Auhof.co.uk. You will be ferried to & from the slopes every day. If you want to hire skis, click on skiset, on the skichat page. It's low cost and good service. You are beginners, and you should know that the Wildschonau ski school is very highly rated in Austria. (nown locally as the red ski school). Finally, I will be leaving on the 18 March, so might even see you! Ski well. |

Fiat Panda price from Geneva French side is £140.95. This does not cover refundable excess or winter tyres.
You will need to check, but since you are going in April, you probably are not required to use winter tyres. You can choose to pay extra for excess insurance or take out annual excess insurance. To reduce the £140.95 down to £129.67, route to Auto Europe through Quidco. A week ago, the reduction was 8%. If you have 3000 or so Airmiles, you should get the car hire for nothing! |

Angeltop, I have skied the past three seasons at the season end, (end of March) each year, we have left Niederau, Gondola closed, with a completely white mountain.
You do have to understand that with March skiing, the best skiing is early morning to mid-afternoon. If you have some experience, there are two runs at the top of the mountain that usually retain good quality snow until the season end. This year the Niederau season ends on the 29th March, after which Niederau-based folk will catch the ski bus to Auffach, where the lift system remains open for another couple of weeks. Sad to say, I wil miss you by three days, I head home on the 18 March. Unless of course there is a big snow dump, and subsequent pleading phone calls to my OH! |

Skied a couple of times on the Stubai Glacier.
Enjoyed the skiing, the views, high quality snow. I didn't feel any "soul" for the place ~ impossible to quantify, but it's a feeling. My preference is for lower, treeline skiing. Hence while I enjoy some visits to higher level areas, they don't always command my interest. Notable exceptions include Blackcomb, the Zermatt glaciers, and VT. My ski buddy, Mel had several years visiting Neustift area, and I trust his knowledge enough to say there must be good sking. Ellestine, have you been to Niederau yet, or is this yet to take place? |
