Seems like a lot of it this year in the Alps. Anywhere near records?

Came back from Kitzbuhel on the 14th and the locals were talking about the most snow for nearly 20 years. Since when they've had massive amounts!! Apparently this is consistent with global warming however which will mean that the Alps will be green all year round by 2015, 2020, 2030 or 2050 depending on which computer model you use.

I was in Niederau Dec 26th and they were said its as much snow early season as they can remember, and yet I was skiing over stones on the black run, and the nursery slopes were like rubble. I was in Mayrhofen for a day on 30th, and they were talking about the best early snow for 20 years, and there were green shoots popping through in a few places. I was in St Anton on 4th Jan and the snow was discussed as being as good as they can remember in recent times, yet we were avoiding grassy clumps on some off piste trips.
We seem to forget that we are supposed to get snow in the alps between November and April.
All I can say is, make hay while the sun shines. Or should that be while the snow falls.....

I heard that Glenshee has had 30000 skier days already this year compared to 39000 last year and about 8000 the year before? Nothing on the c2001 100,000++ skier days!

Not within a smell of the records in Austria. There was a better winter just 4 years ago, when the lifts opened in Hopfgarten in October.

Wel Ok, a bit of liberty with March 09, but I'm gonna grab what there is.

Next year will mark my 40th years since I started skiing in N., and I can recall several winters better than 2005/6.

The whole of the Kitsbuhle Alpen had a better year on 05/06 than this year, so far!

Just got back from Obertauern and it just would not stop snowing!! Had waist deep powder on three of the six days.

Really cold as well, think -15 tops on some days, the powder was amazing. best week i've ever had in europe and wouldnt have thought it will be that good again for a while yet!

We've an absolute ton of snow also here in Slovakia... but then it's quite the norm here...

A ton, spread out over the whole of Slovakia that is not a whole lot.. care to quantify?

2m cubed of snow is roughly a ton.
