I live by this now

Spontaneously calling it a day after a great run tends to be how it is done.
The Fall

You see, skinny skis + unconsolidated snow are the issue here. If only he could have seen the future and delayed taking up skiing until the late 90s

Great pic.
If you safeguarded against every potential accident you would spend more of your time worrying and preparing for an incident instead of actually skiing. Wearing a gumshield is, in my opinion, total overkill.

Jumping downhill you don't necessarily need to 'lean forward' unless you have a habit of skiing, and indeed taking off, in the backseat.

In the speed events they can push close to 150kmh, in a fall it is very likely that a helmet could save their life. Recreational skiing doesn't reach anywhere near the speeds they do in the Olympics and deaths on the piste are usually for a number of reasons and not necessarily head injuries. Either way, there is a length discussion on helmets sticky-d in one of the forums where any further helmet discussion should take place ;)
1- is a bit vague for me 'some exercises?!
2- surely this should just be a part of every day life, I wonder how many people just pick it up a week before they go away
3- very important to know 'how to fall'
4- 'all the safety gear'?! Not everyone chooses to wear a helmet and it definitely isn't essential
5- pretty sure 1,3 and 5 could be grouped together to say 'should be moderately fit'
6- distributing your weight 'forward' could lead to a fall on your face?! 'Be centered' is probably more appropriate
7- really?

Congrats Tino - sounds like an excellent trip. Make sure you take your camera!

Thanks Pablo,
I thought they would probably be pretty expensive. One of my Scottish cousins wears a kilt quite often, but it's not what you might call a dress kilt, more like one of Ian's tartan skirts, and hence probably not so expensive.

If they cost as much as that, it's amazing they managed to muster so many kilts, never mind the skiers to wear them

You can have tartan dress kilts. Obviously there are cheaper ones but generally the quality won't be as good.

This link might be a little more useful. Try running a search on either of those resorts to see if it brings anything up as far as access is concerned.

Thanks Bandit, it does look pretty impressive. I wonder if they all owned their kilts or whether they hired them for the day? I bet a proper kilt is quite expensive to buy.

Looking at close to £100 to hire a decent kilt with all the trimmings. For something decent with all the necessary bits and pieces you are looking at between 500 and 1000 (at a guesstimate).
