In France the style tends to be legs closer together than the style preferred by many other teaching nations but it is not the old school legs together and swinging hips style I envisaged the OP as having.

I gave up 5s all together as my only source of income is now skiing and I frequently picked up a knock when playing. Also stopped 11s for the same reason. Also stopped running for the knees.
