AJ Adele a welcome does of common sense, well done! a thread that started about good manners and assisting others in need seems to have evolved in to a rant by some the experts about the less experienced having the temerity to be on their slopes and in their way! Shazzo |

Following on from an issue raised in ski etiquette why on earth are so many of those runs with the narrow road section classed as blue?! I am a pretty reasoanble skier but still hate them as I am aware of the possibility than any small error could result in me lying in various size pieces 100 feet below, as evidenced by the poor guy in Alpe D'Huez this weekend. It put my friend off skiing for life. After a very promising first day on the nursery slopes, the instructor took them up on the lift the next day and came down one of these which left the poor girl shaking for hours and a flat refusal to have any more to do with the sport! I know skiiing is not for the faint hearted but I do think these runs need to be highlighted in some way so users can make informed decisions about the pistes they take. Shazzo |

I must have been very fortunate because where ever I've been someone has stopped very quickly and helped me to retrieve poles, skis, sunglasses etc. - luckily I have only had small tumbles and not hurt myself, and more importantly have never taken anyone else out with me. (Well only my daughter (then 20!) once, and she just stood there watching me slide very slowly in to her!) Perhaps ski schools should teach people how to fall over - I think sometimes people career out of control and causes damage to themselves and others as they are afraid of falling instead of committimg to a safe tumble early on in the process. With more and more skiiers on the pistes dare I also suggest some form of test and licence system?! |

Off to Nendaz on 21st and already booked for Montgenevre Jan 2010. OH is doing his best to keep me from booking another for Mar 2010 - he seems to like some sort of spontaneity to his jollies but that leaves way too much to chance in my book! I am now officially a grumpy old lady, who will only travel from a local airport at a reasonable time of day, wants a certain standard of facilities, preferably ski in/ski out and within 2 hours of resort airport - not to mention decent slopes and lift system,
and all for 2s 6d. (told you I was old...) Shazzo |

Hi
Someone mentioned skiwelt but I wouldn't recommend it for your party. I am a pretty confident red skier in France and Italy (and even black in Italy!)but we went to Hopfgarten inthe skiwelt this year and found it is practically all red moguls!! I really struggled and didn't enjoy it - it may be better on the Soll or Ellmau sides but that involved getting down some blacks first. I have heard Westendorf on the other side of the valley is a lot gentler and a prett little village to boot but very little apres. Hope this helps Shazzo |
