As long as its not School holidays see if you can get cheap flights to Salzburg. Within an hourish of Salzburg there is a multitude of resorts. If you are trying to do it on the cheap Salzburg airport is a tram ride to the station and some of the resorts are on the rail system and the fares were always very reasonable.
Some of the resorts, Schladming for intance have transfer coaches to the airport but these tend to be timetabled around the German incoming flights. |

I had my first ever ski trip to St. Johan in Pongau 26 years ago and loved the place. Wont even try to describe the mountain as I daresay the whole lift system has changed. Fond memories, especially about being smitten by our gorgeous Australian ski instructor. She was a vision !!! But thats another story!!! And the answer to your question is 'NO' but I can still picture her now.

Was skiing it last week, where they had left the snow cannons on and not bashed it in made for some intersting mounds and obstacles on the pistes!! Loved the run down to the village, what I found weird was the difference in the snow on all the different sections of the piste on the way down. perfect, lumpy, icey, firm, but most of all entertaining and very QT!! |

My sister in law and husband are going to St Johann in Tirol at the beginning of March. I found during my recent trip to Mayrhofen that there is an abandance of knowledge on this forum which greatly assisted my groups first few days when we got there, and I thank those who contributed greatly for that especially Tony H.
So does anyone have any knowledge of St Johann in Tirol and recommend pistes to start off with for the pair of them who have 2 weeks skiing experience each and were not 'naturals'. They are booked in to a ski school for the week so they should get looked after on the mountain. Any suggestions or recommendations about mountain and town bar/restaurants would be greatly appreciated or anything else for that matter. I will find out where they are staying and again request peoples views. :?: In anticipation, many thanks. SF |

No you've lost me there!! Perhaps I confused the issue when I said it was 5 Euros a pint which is near as damn it a half litre!! So if it was E5 a half litre in campsite bar I would suggest it would alot more on the French Alps to buy beer, hence my comparing the prices to Austria. If of course you just meant drink less and spend the same amount, then I might as well not go out at all and be a right bore and save alot. I am not of course advocating that you need to drink to enjoy yourself, but sometimes it helps. [b]Got to go I've got a meeting to catch!! |

There is a chapter on body balance which explains it in detail, but briefly your centre of gravity should be over your toes as opposed to your heels. Initiate your turns by coming up and forward, the steeper the run the more prominant the up and down movement. By leaning forward at the start of the turn it allows the front of the skis which is widest to bite in and initate the carve/turn. I have expalined it poorly but thats what I like about the DVD it really makes the point to thick mature thickos like me clear in the various chapters and in particular the body postitions. Can someone qualified give a better explanation at what im trying to say!!

I have summer holidayed in SE and SW France for the last 5 years and was paying 5 Euros a pint last summer in a campsite bar, I dread to think what the priceas are like in the French Alps!!
I have skied the past 4 years in Austria and only got back from Mayrhofen on sunday which is not the cheapest in Austria I have been to. The difference, I was normally paying E 3.20- E 3.80 for a half litre either in the town or on the mountain. Not to rub it in to much but I had a huge plate full of Vienasnitzel and chips and half litre of lager for E 9.30 on the most expensive mountain bar/restaurant we used. Even with pound being poor against the Euro it still really only reflected London pub prices. Allez Le Austria!! |
