I have a Three UK USB modem I was hoping to use in the laptop while I am in Oberau in a cople of weeks time but on inspection of the Three Austria map, coverage on the Three network drops off Quickly once you exit Worgl.

Also does anyone have any idea if the Dorferwirt in Oberau have any wireless internet paid or unpaid? Tried to contact them but the contact page always ends in error.

Thanks

Mark

I will be interested in this reply as me and hubby have mobiles on 3 network and they said we could use the 3 like home, or something like that whilst we were in austria. were did you find about the coverage dropping?

Well I have looked at the terms and conditions for dfds and cannot find anything that says what happens if we miss the ferry.

There is only one ferry a day. It goes from Amsterdam to Newcastle every day I think.

When I was reading the terms and coniditions it pointed out something that I hadnt thought of and that was will the kids need a booster seat? do you know if the rules are the same as the UK with regards to seating?

Karen, the strength of north facing resorts is better quality, and longer lasting snow. In early January the sun doesn't get onto the slopes, although it is certainly a sun trap on the top slopes.

Thanks for your reply.

That is good to know that the sun will be round onto the beginner slopes. I will take the thirty extra layers I bought for the kids back to the shops ) lol

Actually, talking about layers. Will 1 pair of thermal bottoms be enough to put under their sallopettes? I remember having to wear a pair of tights, with a pair of jogging bottoms and then the saloppets on top? (mind that was many moons ago, probably before thermals were invented lol)

Thanks Dave.

I have had a look at that site. I think we should give about 10 hours to drive back to Amsterdam. That is as long as there are no incidents on the road etc. The only thing that worries me is that if we miss our ferry, we will have to pay to get another one. If we have to be checked in at 3.30pm, allowing 10 hours for driving would mean we would have to set off from Niederau at 5.30am. That would be like getting up in the middle of the night (4.30am) for us lot! lol. and hubby doesnt really fancy driving throught the night.

So if we go for plan B which is to set off the night before and drive for about 3 hours, do you have any suggestions where is best to head to for a layover?

I have been thinking about our journey via car from Niederau back to Amsterdam and the more I think about the more I am thinking we are going to have to get up in the middle of the night to make it back to Amsterdam.

The ferry leaves at 5.30 and we have to be checked in by 3.30.

How much time would you give as a generous amount of time to do this journey? 9. 10, 11, 12 hours?

I am giving some serious thought to not staying in Niederau on our last night and instead driving north for about 3 or 4 hours and staying overnight so we wont miss the ferry. Am I being rash? If not where should we look at staying? bearing in mind, it probably wont be to sight see.

Thanks again for another good honest report about Niederau. I must say I am still looking forward to it, but I am starting to have some reservations, but trying to keep the positives in mind.

My negatives are
1. is it going to be too cold for the kids? Now hearing that most of the slopes are in the shade, especailly where the ski school is. My youngest feels the cold really bad.
2. is there going to be enough variety to ski (this is only a slight reservation as I think it will probably be fine for the limited amount of time I am expecting to last on the slopes lol). just worried that I might get bored, but dont like the idea of leaving half the family in ski school while I go to a different village. Not sure if I would be brave enough to do that or if my control freakiness would let me do it! lol

My positives are

1. It is a small friendly village and I like the idea of the kids being quite close by. (whilst not with me, if you get what I mean).
2. I have been on this site for the last year and feel very reassured that the kids are in safe hands with the ski school (after some good feedback from tne Niederau fans on this site).
3. I have looked at Jans webcam that often that I probably know the village like the back of my hand now. (and also the photograph of where the Alpenhof is in relation to the slopes etc).

I know I have contradicted myself in those 2 sections but that is a womans perogative lol! I feel brave, then I dont! sue me! lol
I was just wondering if we should bring our own sledges with us (the plastic type) or if anyone knew how much they were to hire or buy? we will probably only use them a couple of times.

Oh that would be a riot!! NOT! lol  I like the sound of me and kids throw buckets of water at hubby! after all if we need to put them on there is no way I will be gettin out the car! well only to take the odd picture !
