I was just wondering if we should bring our own sledges with us (the plastic type) or if anyone knew how much they were to hire or buy? we will probably only use them a couple of times.

Karen,
I just looked at Blachfelders price list which gives a rental cost for a "Rodel", ie a toboggan, as 3.5Eu. I presume that is per day. Margreiter may be cheaper.
Some hotels, like the Harfenwirt keep some individual plastic trays hanging outside for their guest's use. You could email your hotel, and see if they have anything.
I wouldn't take sledges.

Just returned from Mayrhofen where my 16 year old daughter and friends forked out all of 3 Euros for plastic trays with a handles (designed for purpose) which gave them hours of fun on the slopes being teenagers and not worried what others might say if they saw them!! Put it this way she bought the damn thing home so it obviously worked well!

Just returned from Niederau and we stayed in the Sonnschein Hotel, they had lots of sledges you could just use that other guest had left. Not sure if you will have time to sledge though, we managed to fit this in on the day we where returning home!
We had a fantastic time and hope to return end of this year!
