they are a legal requirement. Not sure if I will actually need to use them though.

Sorry to be asking a snow chains question but I did look at the questions that hasve already been asked but couldnt find the answer.
I have been looking on ebay at buying some snow chains. However, I have noticed they come in different thickness of chains. some are 5mm, 9mm or 16mm that Ihave com across. Does it make a difference? We are driving from Amsterdam to Niederau on 14th Feb. our tyres are 205/60/r15. These 9mm chains are £30 plus postage http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ALL-NEW-SUPERIOR-9MM-ICE-GRIP-EASY-FIT-CAR-SNOW-CHAINS_W0QQitemZ190277598127QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item190277598127&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1307 do you think they look easy enough to fit? or would these cheaper ones work just as well? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Snow-Chains-for-Cars-all-sizes-TUV-GS-Approved_W0QQitemZ380089979101QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item380089979101&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1299%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 thanks for your help Karen |

Thankss for the reply Dave.
I am glad you hada good trip away. I am tempted to book bronze skis for all the beginners ie hubby and 2 kids and get myself and nephew the silver, but I can hear hubby now......Oh you just have to have the better ones. Well no I dont, but I know that is what he will be thinking. I wouldnt really be bothered going with the bronze skis or paying extra for us all to have the silver, but what I dont want him to experience is that using the silver ones to be too hard. I just keep thinking back to my own experience of buying skis far too big for me thinking I would grow into them and get used to it. Anyway I think I will go with my instinct and book the bronze for hubby and kids and get myself and nephew the silver. Karen |

Thanks for your reply.
Do you think that the bronze ones would be ok for me an nephew to use or should we go for the silver and get hubby and kids bronze? Karen |

Ok so I have decided to go with skiset which takes you to the Margerieter shop.
I have a couple of questions I have decided to go for the silver range BUT do I go for the sport or the recreation. I have skied about 18 years ago and would class myself (then) as an intermediate. My nephew has had one weeks ski school lessons and my hubby and kids are going in to ski school with never having skied before. Shall I just get us all the same? which one sport or recreation in the silver? or shoudl I go for bronze for the beginners. Oh the choices. some advice would be great Karen |

Ive only been to Glenshee and Aviemore. I can only give you my opinion from what i remember 18 years ago, but I much preferred Glenshee to Aviemore. I found the runs at Glenshee to be much more suited to a more novice skier than Aviemore. That is just what I remember, dont quote me lol

That was a very detailed and honest report.
I must admit I too have my reservations about Niederau being such a small resort, But, saying that, I think after your report it is definitly the right choice for our first time skiing holiday as a family, my first skiing away for 18 years and my nephews first ski trip after 1 week ski school last year. I think it will be "just the job". It has also helped me when you mentioned about the cold as I dont think I would have packed as many jumpers for the kids that they would need. I definitily think with them being on the beginner slopes, and my youngest especially feels the cold a lot compared to my oldest. the only experience I have got to go on is what I vaguely remember looking back with my rose coloured specs of nearly 20 years ago. I think you put some good points across without sounding rude. Like you say it is horses for courses and while some people will like to ski in a small area and get to know it, others will like to ski a new run every day. I guess that is why most resorts are different. Well I am still very much looking forward to our trip away. I will probalby be so knackered by day 2 I will be spending the rest of the week in my chalet room trying to recover lol The only thing that worries me is if me and nephew are skiing down a run and it gets too steep, I can see us coming down on our bums lol |
