Bit general 'the alps' but at higher elevations there is usually plenty. Even low down you can get some nice turns if you are lucky.

Being a helmet wearer I must just interpret these threads differently. Maybe I just understand the long words

Tony - if you get so offended by it just stop opening these threads
I think the instructor was just smoking with the same hand he was holding the camera.
I would never consider getting another pair from them, if I was you. Hope for store credit and buy something else you need.
I think what 'notch' you have them on is totally irrelevant, no 2 people have feet which are the sameand everyones boots different in terms of wear/use etc.

Here is their boot fit guarantee (from snowandrock online) -

Ski Boot Comfort Guarantee

When you buy boots from us we guarantee they will fit. If any problems develop we will change the boot or refit them at no charge with a refund of any difference if you change to a cheaper model. If after skiing in the boots you discover any fit problems we will continue to offer a free refitting service. Finally, if despite our refitting efforts your boots prove unsuitable and have been skied for less than 14 days we will issue you with a credit note less the comfort guarantee credit. A list of these charges are laid out on page 217 of our catalogue. To achieve the highest quality of fit a custom foot bed is essential.

The following conditions apply to the Ski Boot Comfort Guarantee: Cash refunds are not given.

* You must retain your original purchase receipt.
* The comfort guarantee is only valid for the season in which the boots are purchased. Boots purchased between September 1st 2009 and 15th April 2010 are valid for the 2009/10 winter season, finishing on the 15th April 2010. For boots purchased after April 15th 2010 the comfort guarantee is valid until the end of April 2011.
* This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
* You must retain your original purchase receipt.
* Ski Boots purchased via snowandrock.com will not be covered by our exclusive Comfort Guarantee unless taken in to one of our stores (except Kings Road Chelsea + Harrods) for assessment by one of our trained boot fitters. This service is free of charge. Please take your receipt.

You probably want to discuss this at an off peak time and when you can get a hold of the manager. You should ring up to find out when he will be in and drop by.
max_sang wrote:Interesting. Just so I have my powder dry, so to speak, how do you know the I8 is narrow (is there some database of boots out there? The Salomon website just has current models), and how can I measure my foot width in some standard way? If I have evidence that they fecked it up they might be more inclined to help me out...

Thanks!!

Lockwoods list the widths of each particular boot. Give them a chance before you go in armed with all the evidence and accuse them of doing their job incorrectly (even although they have, you should give them another shot at making it right). If you go for boots in the future you should get a recommendation a solid recommendation and go on that without any preconceptions of what boots you should have. If they are good then the boots will work.
