Worst advice I've heard

Yep e-bay is great for picking up bargains too. I got a fantastic, immaculate, as new, Killy Mastertech AWT Jacket and Salopettes for a fraction of the original cost. It was worth every penny, it kept me warm, dry and snug for the whole week and is still like new.
School Trips in 2010

My son has just brought home a form for the 2010 Feb half-term ski trip. We were hoping that the school would be going back to Europe next year (our oldest son is going in April to USA)to keep the cost down but instead of that they are doing an even more expensive trip to Canada - £1,250 for 7 days. So please think of cost when booking because it is a strain on us parents, we feel that we can't say no to our other son as it wouldn't seem fair.

Our school use a company called Pinnacle Travel who specialise in school ski trips and are excellent. I'm sure you will have no trouble finding them on the internet if you do a search. Don't worry though they don't only go to USA & Canada I think they do the European resorts as well.

Good Luck
First ski-trip lessons learned

We told the hire shop we were beginners but they used our height as a guide for the size of our skis. When we got to the ski school everybody had the same size ski's, even people who were 8 inches taller than me. I think the size of the skis were 110 or 120. We were very lucky in that the ski school swapped our hire skis for some of theirs.

I think the width of the boots are determined by the clasps. My friend and I were the only one's in our group with the same boots and we were the only 2 to really suffer. When we changed our boots we noticed that the front flap that lays against the shin was much more cushioned and that made one hell of a difference.

What a cruel twist of fate :( Here's wishing your OH a speedy recovery. The stress of caring for a loved one can take it's toll so take good care of yourself too.
Think I might be hooked!!

Oh dear, am I sad or what :( Didn't think I was that bothered about skiing but I've found myself studying the ski lessons on you tube, trying out the techniques in my lounge and longing to go back and pick up where I left off. My OH is definitely hooked and is even talking about working 7 days a week to try and save for next winter - sure is addictive this skiing lark

My teenage son is going to Sugarloaf (Maine) in April, anyone been there? Just wondering what the place is like and will there still be plenty of snow in April?

Aldi's have childens thermals on sale from today, I used a set from Aldi's recently in Austria and they were great and very reasonable.
