My teenage son is going to Sugarloaf (Maine) in April, anyone been there? Just wondering what the place is like and will there still be plenty of snow in April?

should be OK, they usually run until the third weekend in April. Cold at night, warm days, corn snow

Please excuse my ignorance but what is "corn snow"

i think it refers to when the snow is of a "slushy" appearance

Snow which has gone through a freeze thaw cycle (at least once) and is one of my favourite types of snow. Best skied mid morning after it has softened from the overnight freeze-it can make anyone look seriously good on skis-in the afternoon it can get pretty slushy or if you are lucky it stays super smooth and quick all day. Take your waterproofs as it wil lmake you a little wet.

corn snow- also know as hero snow; re-crystallized flakes after multiple freeze/thaw cycles. very fun skiing once it softens up, but icy and difficult before.

Been there about 5 times, with varying degrees of snow. Had the best, and the worst conditions there.

We usually went just after New Year, so weather was changeable, but I believe that Feb and Mar are the best months to go for snow.

Some great runs, lovely scenery and very friendly people.
I'd rather have a bad day's riding than a good day at work.
