I accept that but having gone up on the gondolla you are still at the bottom of the pistes.Apart from Andorra at Arinsal I have never had to do that.

Should have mentioned it, the attached photo is at the bottom of the Penken ski area, so you can see how far you have to go up to get the bottom of the pistes.

Have been to Schladming for the past 5 years and have to declare that there are a couple of annoying T bars required to get back from the Haiber to the Planai which is a bit of chore but do not let that put you off. There are four mountains that are all linked together. You can ski to the bottom to the resorts at all of them.
Also went to Mayrhofen last year and yes thought the skiing was excellent but found it a chore to have to queue morning and at tea time to get to and from the skiing area on the gondollas to the Penken. |

Have skied in Scladming 5 times and a fine place it is. That being said that was always in January, but they have one of the biggest snow cannon infrastructures in Austria.

Ahh, sorry to hear that. Thought Rocket Ski was a tag on here!! How little I know. Tony I thought you were an independent traveller. Schladming is easy to get to. Where does that leave you going now. Saalbach!

HOTEL POSTWIRT SOLL 4STAR
Group of us are going to the above Hotel, never been to Soll before. We have been to Schladming for a number of years but fancy a change. Anyone know both and give a comparison. I know Schladming is not well known to many British skiers and would recommend it, although maybe not ideal for the young club scene adrenalin junkies. |

Not that this should have a bearing on it, but taking into account Mrs Tony-H. Schladming is a working town which includes its own brewery and as a result is not quite as picturesque as some of the other Austrian resorts. That being said its skiing is vast and varied, not to much on the black adrenalin runs. My group have been there 5 years on the trot so it must have something going for it. Brits are very much in the minority, so depending on how u like your Apres. We enjoy ourselves over there but then again we are slightly older than your average bears!!We are thinking of a change this year and considering Salbach!!
