Mike, I'm off next week as well but I fully expect La Rosiere to be open, in the last 20yrs it has only failed to open on the scheduled date once. In my experience last 6+ yrs we've always had enough snow by Xmas week. We do seem to get weather that other resorts don't, according to the locals it's the proximity to Mont Blanc that ensures we get masses of snow, the pass to Italy the Col de Petit St Bernard has been closed since mid Nov and won't open again until June. In fact we can often have snow when Les Arcs, 6kms away directly across the valley has none and Val d'Isere 20 or so kms away along the valley gets it's weather from a totally different direction and relies on Southerly winds coming up through Italy. I guess the bottom line is that weather in the mountains is often very local and whilst the overall weather pattern has an influence it's not the be all and end all.

Make sure you pack your thermals, Les Arcs 2000 is north facing and in Jan uary you won't see the sun until about 11.00 and it'll be gone by 15.00 so it can get mighty cold. It's also a blot on the landscape but Les Arcs has IMO the best piste skiing of any mega station in France. Worth skiing down to Villaroger, if there's enough snow, to lunch at La Ferme

La Rosiere hits all the buttons you've listed; the secenary is spectacular, check out some of the views on www.tracksvacations.com over 11 peaks above 3,000metres in a single vista. The skiing is good for all grades but intermediates love the varied mix of blues and reds in France and Italy. Over 150 kms of pistes on a single lift pass that's remarkable value at just over £100.00 for 6 days.

Late January or February is usually very good, La Rosiere is very snow- sure, it holds the record for maximum snowfall in France and our proximity to Mont Blance ensures we get snow when other resorts don't, see the comments from the good ski and snowboard guide on our home page.

We've got a special offer for January, a free 6 day Espace San Bernardo lift pass with every adult weekly booking, makes our holidays even better value especially when you factor in free transfers to/from Geneva and ski-hosting.

It's been tipping down in La Rosiere, must be about 30cms of fresh today. Looking good for the resort opening on 16th Dec as scheduled.
