Ski equipment in Aldi Monday 27th.
http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week52Monday10.htm some good reviews in previous years. Definetly good enough for anyone wanting to try skiing for the first time but dosent want to risk investing to much money on gear. Normally it is limited stock. |

Nice to see British Eurosport are using Chemmy Alcott whilst she is out injured, excellent commentry from VDI over the weekend. Great thing about eurosport is the diversity of there programnes, everything from winter biathalon to summer timbersports.

VDI is a massive area, the three times I have been have all been in January & conditions have always been excellent. As stated by previous posts the espace Killy area of Tignes is excellent. Favorite run for me is the OK piste/orange piste into La Dallie, if you watch Eurosport tomorrow morning you will see the ladies FIS downhill skiers ski these runs. Its pretty cool skiing into the finish area & there is a good cafe bar at the bottom. It can be a bit of a scrum at the end of the day trying to get on the bus fom La Dallie to VDI so try & plan your day so you end up on the Solaise side of VDI.
Après ski is what ever you want it to be from chic cafe bars to jumping music bars. Only down side to VDI is it's very commercial & unfortunately expensive, don't expect the personal touch you get from some of the other less commercial stations. |

My ski clothing & comfort has evolved year in year out & for piste skiing I think I have finally got the layering balance about right. Basically after twenty years of skiing I treated myself to a really good insulated ski jacket & trousers (schoffel), a single base layer is enough for most days to keep warm. Always pack lightweight balaclava & use mitten style ski gloves & pack a pair of liner gloves just in case it's Baltic & one of those buff mufflers. I suppose it depends on how active or how hard you are having to work (depending on skiing ability, group lessons etc & having to hang about alot) to how many layers you will need.
I find on really cold days (wind chill) it is the face & neck that suffer the most, hence the balaclava & neck muffler. Helmet usually works well to keep the elements at bay. |
