I have exactly the same situation as yourself CherryPicker - except son now grown up(17yo) and won't ski with me anymore.
We have been back and back and back again to Courchevel for a number of reasons and although every year I look for somewhere else, this year with a trip to Serre Chevalier is our first away from Courchevel since a disasterous trip to Grindelwald in 2001. Ski area, perfect, easy to get around, great areas for you and son to play in and for yourself to get off on your own and get back to the others. Personally don't bother with 3V pass as I always meet up with OH for drinks and lunch. Bubbles all over the place! A great plus as my wife loves getting up the mountain for views, coffee (and other drinks !!), lunch, sunbathing, reading etc. Bubbles to the nursery slopes as well - she has thoroughly enjoyed going down a bubble as son and I keep pace underneath. No public swimming pool (pretty sure the public pool near 1550 is shut at the moment as it is being rebuilt), but several of the very swish hotels in 1850 allow non-resident entry for a fee, which if memory serves me correct is about 15E for half a day, to use their spa facilities. It is expensive but is the only place that has worked for us and enabled me to get my skiing in and my wife to enjoy her holiday as well. Mind you she always considers it appropriate to spend what she considers my skiing costs in the shops  |

Something like a plan to be able to keep the headline flight price down to next to nothing whilst still making a profit during peak periods?
