From Travelmole

Ryanair is to put up the price of checked in luggage in peak periods to discourage its passengers from taking too much baggage.

In June, July, Aug, Sept and Christmas 2012, it will increase checked-in baggage fees from £20 to £25 per bag for all online bookings made from 15 Dec.

Ryanair will also increase its checked in bag fees paid at call centres and airports from £35 to £60 per bag.

In the low season, (October to May) online checked-in bag fees will remain unchanged at 15 per bag.

I read that as no change for this season, but I'm looking for the small print...

I've said in the past that Ryanair are ok and defended them as they do what they say on the tin. However, this stinks.

Something like a plan to be able to keep the headline flight price down to next to nothing whilst still making a profit during peak periods?

RYAN AIR!. Why not use SWISS Air. They don't charge for skis and boots and are not too keen if you are a kilo over. And they always seem to arrive on time even if they depart a bit late.

Swiss don't serve that many ski destinations from a range of UK airports though, which is a shame.

I've said it before and will do so again.... People should avoid using them. They might then realise they need to sort there act out...

I know it's difficult though as Bandit points out, they cover most airports for skiing.... I'm sure there are other airlines out there.

Agreed with Tony. it stinks......

Not that I want to defend them.....but...it's a pricing plan that clearly works. Or at the very least if they don't see a down turn in seats booked it's a pricing plan that works.

I don't use them and I discourage others from using them if they want to a)pick their seats b) take any luggage c)want to pay by any card! but a family member of mine lives in Scotland but works for most of the week in Ireland, travels light every week and gets a really great deal, so it works for some people.
