Hi Guys, have any of you been to Les Menuires?
What is it like for skiing, (this is only my second time but my husband is an intermediate) We are thinking of going on xmas eve but was wondering if the ski school would be open on xmas day?? even just to get skis and poles?

Everything will be open Xmas Eve, Xmas Day etc - it's a tourist place so stays open when the tourists are there :D

Great central place to stay to ski both locally and to venture further into the three valleys.

Resort is not pretty at all and can be particularly bleak if the weather is bad but there is still a good choice of things around; shops, bars, restaurants etc - enough to keep most people happy.

Plenty of skiing for novice and expert alike and the pistes are very well looked after in general.

Enjoy

I'd echo everything Andy said!

The 3 Valleys is a great area and if you're in that valley then Les Men is perhaps a better choice than Val Thorens if you're a relative novice as the runs into Meribel are easier from the top of Les men than from VT (took some people all the way to Courchebel 1850 on only blues from here in their first week)

Equally though its easy to get from Les Men to VT and vice versa (though the run along the valley floor from VT to Les Menuires - Boulevard Cumin, is marked red and yet is flat so it's hard work)

The downside of Les Men is that it is ugly - Val Thorens is no chocolate box but it's a thousand times prettier.

Enjoy it though - my fave area in the world (and no I'm not going this year - its the Espace Killy's turn this year which is my second favourite!)

This year will be my sixth visit to Les Menuires. I think it is great...the cheapest of the 3V resorts, ugly yes, but perfectly situated for access to the whole ski area.

Have a great time!

Hi Ratandy, just out of interest what hotel do you stay at? We are looking at Hôtel Les Bruyères

we went to Les Men last year, only 2nd time skiing for 2 of our party. We got everywhere on blues with the kids going in the same direction on the reds so great for a mixed ability group. favourite runs for our novices were the run into st martin de belleville and runs off the pointe de thorens (cafe at top good food,(avoid orelle in wind/ice). intermediates loved jerusalem views.we will definately go back. not as pretty but much cheaper eating out than la plagne

If you think Les Menuires is ugly, turn around and look at the mountains.

I love 3 Valleys and Les Men is perfectly situated. Hôtel Les Bruyères is good location and is what you pay for. Your never gonna get luxury in Les Men but who cares when you got that snow, those views and all that piste!
