Tony_H I do apologise I automatically assumed that due to the number of your posts and the time you spend on here that you like me had 'climbed to the summit of life' and were having a pleasant ski down the other side picking a comfortable but challeging route.

Injury update!
Although due to the Xmas period I have not yet the opportunity to let someone in the know examine this mature frame and give me wise advise, the rest food and drink of xmas have done it some good. The nerve seems now not to be trapped and the ache is dull and feels like a cross between dead leg and a groin strain. Will still be seeing someone about it, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and it is looking optimistic for Soll on the 23rd of January! )
Detailed and informative report but does that mean you are going to Soll? A group of us are going Jan 23rd as long as my leg sorts itself out!

Tony you are probably nearer to the truth than you realised!! )
I must accept I am not getting any younger. My daughter (17) works in a specialist 'running' equipment shop in Eastcote, and she pointed out to me that her boss is a sports physio and she is going to mention my dilema to him tomorrow to get some treatment as and when I can.
Does feel not quite as bad today but it seems to be made worse when I sit at a particular angle putting weight on my left buttock. To much detail I know, but your sympathies and advise are well recieved.

Dont worry about the gondola queue if you are there in January, provided you are there early enough you will be fine. In my opinion, that should not be the reason not to try Mayrhofen, but I do understand people wanting to be able to ski back to resort.

You'll find the town great for what you want and also the skiing once up there is excellent.

Tony H I agree that Mayrhofen is a fantastic ski town, I love Austria, we could not always guarantee being out early and the gondolla queue was a chore made worse by the fact that most people coming off the Penken had to use the same gondolla to get off the mountain as well and the queues were just as bad. With what there is elsewhere in Austria I will not be returning there. If Apres does not have to be a madhouse have a look at Schladming.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to send me your comments. At the moments its so bad I can hardly even leave the house, and as such Mrs SF's Xmas presents have not been bought!! I will definately be asking around locally to see if there is some expert with a sporting background who maybe able to help. Any of you folk by chance from the Ruislip, Middx area know of anyone?
Like I have said I am relatively fit for my age, but not an 'Ironman'. Since I packed in competitive team sport I have turned my hand to badminton over the last year and although I did have a few problems with my left 'achilles', I cured this by simply wearing appropriate footwear.

With skiing in mind it has been pointed out to me that I do have a lack of flexability in my ankles which causes me problems in both technique and boot comfort and I have been doing simple stretching excersises to help this. Connected! I know not.

I am hoping that when I was up my loft moving stuff around on sunday to get at my Xmas decorations that due to the lack of foot room up there I may have moved something that was awkward as opposed to being heavy, and as such did not have my feet poistioned appropriately and although I did not feel it at the time maybe stretched something!!

Totally selfish I know but more worried about how this may effect my skiing than how I will cope over Xmas!! Talking of which may I take this opportunity to wish you all where over you may be on the globe a Merry Xmas and fantastic injury free and safe skiing 2010.

I write this a few days before Xmas and 5 weeks before I am due to go to Soll. Not sure what I did but on Sunday had a pain in my left thigh, and on monday the pain from the outside of my thigh to my groin was like someone had it in a torneque (not spelt right)! Absolute agony, and can hardly use my left leg at all, reliant on walking stick and strong pain killers from my doctor. She thinks its a trapped nerve somewhere a possibly the sciatic nerve. I would have expected the pain to be down the back of my buttock and the back of my leg. Been recommended to see a pysio after Xmas. Has anyone got words of comfort that this will pass, as being a relatively fit 50 year old this is the first time I suffered such an injury. Streuth it hurts sitting down typing this, best I hit another tablet!! :(
