Anyone got snow ??
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 119 Replies
Still snowing here - we had a lot of wind too so drifts of about 2ft in places. Saw someone trying to snowboard down the hill by our house this morning. Unsuccessfully I might add.
I love Val D'isere - you will have a fab time! I personally wouldn't wear ugg boots apart from in the hotel, or not walking through any snow unless they are waterproof (?).

I always take far too much stuff for off the slopes clothing, and I always get too hot when I'm inside (hotel, bar etc) and freeze to death when I go outside, so, as someone else said I believe, layering is the key to this issue.

Have fun!
where's best to out of these?

Anyway, thanks for all your help so far, I'll also try my travel agent I think!

PS. in the UK an EC120 like mine is around £600 per hour to hire so one would think it similar in France. Mine is 5 seats with minimum luggage so really you can only take 2 extra passengers with all their things for a week skiing (especially a girls' baggage!)

 I take less luggage than my OH I'll have you know!

Personally I would advise Val D'isere, lots of accommodation choice, nice mountain restaurants (one with bbq if it's still there), half hour from Bourg, lots of great runs to chose from.

One thing I did notice about going on the Eurostar(although going 1st class you probably won't have this problem) was that they seemed to put people without kids in one carriage and people with kids in another, so as we didn't take the kids with us we were in with all the rowdy teenagers vomiting at 3 in the morning and sleeping in the overhead luggage racks. Maybe that was just our experience.

Good prices but check the small print (scroll down their offers page) for the mandatory supplements...
A £16.50 per person currency supplement applies to reduced price holidays in addition to a £1 per person Air Passenger levy.

Room supps, flight supps, child care etc and terms & conditions are as per current 2nd edition Esprit Ski brochure.

Bookings made within 18 days of departure are subject to a £20 per person "Late Booking Administration Fee"

So that's £17.50x4 + £20x4 or £150 for the family of 4, without adding childcare...

I would have thought that adding at least three mandatory supplements for every person would fall foul of advertising standards, no?

If you book on the net you get a £40 discount per person therefore cancelling out the 'late booking fee'.

We are planning on going on 28th Feb for a week with a late deal and have been monitoring on a regular basis.

Some websites have amazing deals, I found one last night h/b, flights and transfers to Val d'iesre for £299. Leaving tomorrow if you fancy it!

Crystal also seemt to have a lot of last minute bargains.

I love a bargain me :D
Draglifts...what a bummer

I agree, I ski and board and prefer to avoid drag lifts more so on my board(buttons are better than t-bars on a board) - more often than not the mountain can be navigated by not using any drags.

Don't know what happened to my previous post!

Wanderer wrote:Don't focus on trying to find resorts that have no draglifts - as Tony said, it is possible to ski throughout most resorts without ever having to use them (you might occasionally have to skip a run here or there but that would normally be the extent of it). Just make sure that there are sufficient chairs/gondolas to get you around.quote]
