Private lessons

I've not had experience of Xscape but I can offer some experience of private lessons. There has been huge discussion on here in the past about pos and cons of group & private but I'll leave that aside.

As a price comparison my wife and I had 3 half day private lessons in Switzerland for approx £350 for both of us.

So far as the benefits of a private lesson for the nervous skier are concerned I would say go for it but not at that price. Unless, of course your wife wants to make sure she is confident before you commit to paying for a holiday.

My MiL came with us two years ago and had no previous skiing experience. She did not get on with group lessons at all because the group advanced too quickly for her ability and she gave up after day one.
Last year we went back to the same resort, same slopes but this time MiL had private lessons. The change was incredible. OK, she wasn't flying down red runs by the end of 3 days but she was confident enough to get down the gentle slopes.
So MiL felt like she had skied with all of us in our group we spent a session with her on the nursery slopes doing very gentle skiing.
A private one to one lesson will allow your wife to progress at her speed and only do what she feels she is confident to do. No pressure to keep up with the group.

Hope this helps

BMI can be very misleading. I'm 6ft and 13.5 stone which makes my BMI 26 which puts me in the overweight category. I have a physical job and run about 30 - 40 miles a week. Just call me fatty!!

So, did his mate hit the bridge accidently or was it deliberate? By the way the narration went there's a hint of suicide me thinks.

The jump over the hairpin bend showed the speed at its best but I was gripping the armchair during the main jump.

Channel 4 9pm (now). Lunatic takes on the Matterhorn by jumping off it wearing only a lycra suit with bat wings!!
South West covers a big area so difficult to pin point where is best for you.

Devon Ski Centre in Newton Abbott is my choice. Small basement shop in a back street but packed with gear and knowledge.
All the staff are skiers and really know their stuff. Bought mine and OH's boots from them last season. If you can, try to go midweek or in time for opening at a weekend. They are very popular and it can get a bit squashed in the shop on a Sat or Sun. www.devonski.co.uk

If you want a bigger name there's Slush & Rubble in Bristol. They're in the Filton area close to the airfield. Website best for directions.

So, the next question on the big M - hotel & travel recommendations.

In the past we have always gone with the large TOs like Crystal & Inghams. We can fly into Innsbruck from Exeter. Questions are - other travel agents recommended by the forum, hotel recommendations (with pool / spa, good food, close to amenities but NOT affected by noise from bars etc) and advice on DIY travel arrangments.

Right, I'm off to sunny Cornwall at the crack of dawn tomorrow, so be good whilst I'm away

As promised, it's gonna be sunny tomorrow. Can't promise for the rest of the week.

We were in Holguin further down the coast. Havana has to be done. The only down side to the Havana trip we did was that we were guided everywhere. Because all the transport and guides are government run, you're restricted in where you go, what you see and your questions are answered very diplomatically but no necessarily hoestly.

At the time I was still in the forces and so going to Cuba involved a lot of security clearance. I made sure I didn't travel with my military ID card, gave my job description as engineer rather than armed forces and told no one what I really did for a living. When we got to Holguin airport I put my hand luggage through the X ray machine and walked off, totally forgetting to collect it from the other end of the machine. OMG you should have seen the uproar!! I was absolutely cacking it!! Really had to bluff my way round the questions they were asking.

You will have the time of your life there.
