I'm with the others on this one. Have at least another week of lessons to master the turns and the steeper pistes and then maybe a top up lesson or two each year. Like many other subjects on here there's those who have lessons and those that don't; those who go private and others who prefer group lessons. Only you truly know where your abilities lie. Be honest, and if you think you'd be better with some more instruction then have it. It's your cash and your future enjoyment at the end of the day.
I'm buying new ski boots

My wife's boots took a week of skiing to bed in properly. Mine were comfy from day one. Lucky me. I'd give them a few hours on the slopes to truely know if they need tweaking.
I'm playing at Ray Mears on Friday & Saturday. We've got about 100 people coming down to our site to learn all about living in the wild, survival skills etc.
Then, Sunday & Monday I need to do some serious maintenance and polishing of my boat to get it ready for the new season.

Arghhh!! Stop tempting me! We're really restricted on time off work. Wife is a nurse and I'm self employed so we have to plan carefully and within various leave windows.

badlandskid wrote:You have probably already done this, but if not, have your friends that live in the Bozeman area keep any eye open for any promotions that either Big Sky or Bridger Bowl may have for then. Sometimes they have ski shows where they offer lift tickets at a discount if you buy them in advance. We usually get one in our area in late summer every year.
I didn't see how many days you will be skiing but Big Sky has a lot of runs at every level. You could ski there multiple days & not get bored. Two days at Bridger is as long as I want to ski there. However from past experience the lift tickets were close to twice as much at Big Sky.

I did a quick comparison the other day and a 6 day pass for Big Sky is almost the same as 6 days in Saas Fee so all in all maybe not as expensive as I thought. We'll probably be skiing for 6 days ish, probably do a couple at Bridger so we can have a mess around with our non skiing hosts and then hire a car and do Big Sky for the remainder.
Nice idea about looking out for pass offers. I'd based my costings on the ski area websites so any discounts will be a welcome bonus.
We did have plans to go up to Whitefish but by the time we've added in transport, food and accomodation it starts to get unrealistically expensive.
I found the cheapest way to get buy an engagement ring and the subsequent wedding rings was to marry a jeweller's daughter. Lucky me!! Saved a fortune. :D

Bridger is a nice mountain for taking a family to, especially if you have younger children. Not as expensive, a bit more low key. No high speed quads the last time I was there. Most of the lifts are older and tend to stop once in a while.

Also, you will not be that far from Red Lodge. It is about 60 miles south west of Billings. Total driving time from Bozeman would be in that 2.5-3 hour range. They have a nice sized, family friendly mountain with two high speed quads on the back side. Just check their snow reports before planning to drive there. Sometimes they get shorted on the snow.

Whitefish, aka Big Mountain would be quite a drive from Bozeman. Not sure on air service to that area. It is good sized and very uncrowded.

Sorry for bumping an older thread but I see you still have 10 months to plan... 8)

Budget is going to be the restricting factor on this trip. We're looking at £1200 - 1500 for flights to Bozeman alone.Lift passes also seem to be extremely expensive.

I tried the Weiss Bier as well but not so keen on that.
