If I was seventeen again, I would be right in there. Bloody cheap and looks a little more modern than a typical dorm type place, also it's @ the Hof!! As it is I am twice that age and a (very) small home in Zermatt is more to my taste :)

Humbling experience

Nice to see you back Rose!!

That must have been humbling, I am never sure how to react in situations like that. I never want to appear over-awed in case it seems patronising, even if I am over-awed. I guess that's just my ignorance showing. It just goes to show what we can all do if we put our minds to something. I sat and watched a guy with one leg skiing in Zermatt in May, he had a camera crew with him and was faster than i dream of being. These guys are obviously dedicated and probably dismiss thier ability to that fact. It's a lesson we can all learn from, if you want something bad enough......,

BTW, what kind of planes were they flying?
That time of year...

Just spent two hours TLC on my Prior MFR, I killed her in Zermatt in May. Was having so much fun during the last recognised full weekend of the winter season that I was riding over roads, along walls and through stones and mud on the lower runs. Got her home cleaned her off, dired and waxed her so that there would be no water damage.

Woke up this morning and decided to see how bad the damage is. Not good at all was the answer. So off with the wax, out with the Stanley blades and wire brush to get some of the grooves fattened out, files the edges to 87°, cleaned dried and wax back on. She is gonna need a full service including base grind when I get to Switzerland so I held of with the pTex.

Anyway I've definately reached that point when I have had my fill of summer and just want to get on with the business end of the year. Back on J2Ski, servicing my equipment (bindings are in the bath right now), dreaming of snow, setting targets for the season and generally becoming obsessed again.

Gonna be in Zermatt next weekend to look for an appartment, however most of the landlords I am gonna see wanna meet in the morning, so it's unlikely I will get any riding done, come October though, I'm gonna be ou there every weekend :)

Anyone else sick of BBQ's,G&T's and invitations to garden parties (not that I have actually done any of those) and just want to get on with the business of getting wrapped up, speeding down hills and enjoying the odd Glühwein???

Ballie, congrats on the job. You'll have a blinder!

For the phone, stop off in a big city and go to a large electrical retailers (Media Mart or Saturn). You can pick up a crap hanset with local pay as you go SIM for about 30€. Beware however, you will need proof of address in Austria to register the SIM for security reasons. I am sure you could use the resort HQ. Then you can either dump the phone and put the SIM in yours or have two. You'll need one to keep up with the movements of your colleagues, and I mean out of working hour ;)

Check in 2 ski bags at limit of 23kg

take carry on suitcases at the edge of the allowable size, BA never check weight of hand luggage in my experience.

No charges.

Proposed get up for the season...

I am getting this (172cm hopefully, hard to find) as an engagement present from the missus who was dismayed that I wanted to spend more than 40 quid on a ring  Thanks for the tip Trencher!!

For complete freeride support.

Sticking with last seasons bindings, cos they are so quick to get into. Only once have they opened unexpextedly, on the Hara Kiri of all places

Clotheswise I am taking the 2 soft shell approach this year rather than the padded and skirted insulated jacket route:

TNF Summit Series Apex Soft Shell (red)

over

Spyder Patsch Hoody Soft Shell (black)

with some TNF black pants, yet to be purchased.

Roll on October :)
