I didn't get that far!! The vegetarian thing had me running to the fridge to lick a cold raw steak.

Thanks all, I am starting to get really excited now :)

SwingBeep, you answered at least 3 of my questions straight out there, u have been quoted for removals to Zermatt and it's not cheap  whereabouts are you located?

Lined up for some viewings next weekend, gonna take the missus down for her first look at Switzerland, nevermind Zermatt.

Been 35+ degrees C here for weeks, however all I can think of is snow, sliding and starting a new job. Need to get the logistics done however and that is tiresome. I an corressponding in 3 languages, English, French and German.

Good weekend all, it's 2pm here and I'm in court writing this :( Witness not defendant. The sub is out and I wanna go drink beer.

I chucked my boots in a bin in Mayrhofen in April, guess I'll need some of them!!

Some nice plain black pants would be nice too.

As our resident Mayrhofen expert has not chipped in, I will act as proxy.

Mayrhofen is perfect for your needs, good nightlife, a great variety of slopes and well geared towards boarders. There is not a lot of truely difficult stuff but the variety of red runs is fantastic. Little tip, use the main mountain (Penken) for a while, access etc, but don't get stuck there as there is far better and less crowded riding on the surrounding hills.

Saying that, I can also recommend Saalbach Hinterglemm which has the best boarding lift system I have come across. Again not a resort for the true steep thrill seeker, but an awesome place for cruising. I was up to about 80km a day (140km with lifts).

St. Anton is just great, but beware, a colourblind individual must have graded it as the runs bore absolutely no resemblance to the markers.

Whatever you do, do it with style.

So then boys and girls, all my dreams have come true and I'm moving to Switzerland. Decided not to worry about the cost and live in Zermatt for a year whilst I find a place to buy!! Have 2 viewings sorted for next weekend already and hope to set up at least 4 more. One of them can be skied back to at the end of the day!! So all I have to do is make sure the future Mrs. Tino is so taken with the place that there is no opposition to the plan :) a long weekend in a nice chalet should do the trick :) Might take a board down for a few mornin runs on Sunday and Monday too.

anyhoo,... just let me know when you are all in town for the J2Ski Zermatt trip and I might get out of bed early and come meet you.

On a more serious note, any tips on relocating to Switzerland are appreciated. The move and residence permits will be handled by the company so that's easy. I guess the personal experience side of things I need to know.

Happy days!!

Dave Mac wrote:Tino, great location! Hope the contract is long term. Of course you don't have to stay in Visp. Somewhere a little closer to the slopes? With extra rooms? For sure you will manage your 60 days snow target, and save a fortune on rail fares. How much a Zermatt season pass?

Contract is open ended, so I get a B Permit as part of the deal :) Looking all around the region for somewhere to live, Leukerbad is quite tempting, but like Zermatt and Saas Fee; expensive! So might have to be a smaller village on the route to one of the three.

Bandit PM'd me the prices for the passes....... International Pass for Zermatt-Cervinia is 1568CHF for the "season" and 1968CHF for the year. The possibility of snowboarding EVERY weekend of the year is attractive beyond belief. I will be getting the full rail ticket for Switzerland which gives unlimited access to all transport nationwide.

The job and the company is also a perfect move for me, so it's a complete win on all levels. Start date is the 1st October, gonna be a very long season :)
