It seems just what I am looking for, I think I am going to take the plunge and book it this week.
I need to deal with a Romanian tour operator to get this deal which is never easy.
" Yes Sir, I can book that for you, just pay me all the money up front and I will give you this hand written note as a booking confirmation, credit cards? Sorry sir my machine broken but I accept big wads of cash especially euros or pounds" but fingers crossed :D

mmmmmm sounds a bit like Bulgaria.....

Sking on the Kaprun glacier is good, but can be bleak when the weather closes in, but of course thats when you retire to the tree lined oslopes of Schmittenhoe in Xell.

If you want a little extra variety - and since it sounds like you will have your car with you get the one of the passes that allows you access to more resorts for not a lot more money. We've bought the Super Salzburger lift pass for the week in January (which gives acceess to Saalbach-Hinterglem just a few km down the road as well as many other resorts in the area) and it only cost us about £9 more than the standard Zell/Kaprun pass for the week.

Have a good one.

The bars in both Kaprun and Zell are good and quite a variety. It's one of the reasons I keep going back - really good vibe and lots of life, but not quite party central with drunken idiots. Just a nice mix of ages/sexes/nationalities.

Some nice restaurants on the mountain to (in Zell).

Shame we're not there the same week, could have shared a beer. Maybe next season!

Theres a reasonable mix or runs and the blacks are quite entertaining (especially run 14 in zell), both 13 & 14 are in the shade for much of the run so tend to stay in reasonable condition.

I've always been there with fairly mixed ability groups from beginner through to expert and we've always found something to keep everyone happy.

I'll be in Kaprun from 4/12/09 for a break and then Zell am See from 9/1/10, I love the area, people and the skiing. This will b around my 8th time in the area. Planning to do new year in Zell next year.

If theres anything specific about the resort you want to know - ask away and ifI can help i will.

Cheers

Fifteen of us got together to take a full chalet at £459 fully catered. All solo skiers wanting someone to ski with/eat with/travel with. Large group means no pressure of sticking with one-to-one ski buddy. We're meeting up in London in December for a beer. Anyone welcome.

Great date, wish it wasn't France ! :-(

Just re-read your post - as you say 'first ski holiday' then i guess you are beginners. We had a few beginners in our group on my break and they learnt quickly on the easy greens just behind the resort and soon joined us on the slightly trickier long blues, some joining us on a few reds by the end of the week.

Enjoy !

Had a very enjoyable break there 2 years ago, if your over the beginer stage it's worth getting the lift pass that allows you a day in Madonna to (free bus there and back - or it was then) as it's only a few Euros more and a great day out.

If you like your beer then El Bait is worth heading to for apres - usually a table full of free nibbles from about 4.30pm and some very unusual beers on draught at times.

Price wise it was about the cheapest beer/food I had that year - and all very good.

If theres anything specific you want to know feel free to PM me, if i can offer any relevant info i will.
