I am not so sure about the value of this chart Swingbeep, although I can see it is the kind of thing that a European civil servant would deem to be useful! I am happy to spend what it takes, to ski where I want. Having said that, in most years, I do get outstanding value for good quality skiing. Unlikely to manage that this winter though - (

I complained several times on their website, along with others. My complaint was not so much about the content, I didn't go there for that, I went to meet up with people that I know.
The entry ticket could be validated for a free lift pass for a Scottish ski resort, however, they neglected to say you had to endure a fairly lengthy queue or two to get the said lift pass. I felt that half an hour in a queue was not what our guide dog trainee should have to suffer. |

Good question, Lota. If you really like skiing, and I mean skiing, and not just sight seeing, and being seen in this years colours and styles, then you can often get more done in a modest sized resort, than in a 500km area. And of course you get to know the locals and the culture. Alpbach is an interesting place. After WW2, the major of Alpbach was the author of Tirols section of the Marshall plan. Skiing and mountain tourism was set to be a key part of the plan. In 1946, Niederau built the first mountain chairlift in Austria. It was built by Ingenieur Sepp Hochmuth, a really nice guy. I got to ski with him, and sadly later attended his funeral. I also conversed with a succesor of the Alpbach mayor, Mayor Blechzacher, who helped me with some research into Tirol Alpbach/Wildschönau history. Next year, the Wildschönau and Alpbachtal will be joined together into the same area. In addition to increasing the range of skiing, it will open up some great off piste runs down from the Schatzberg to Inner Alpbach. Err, what was the question, again? ) |

Attended the Scottish Ski Show yesterday. It was quite good, although not big, I did manage to meet some old friends and one special new one. The star action was Danny MaCaskells trick cycling team.
We were supposed to be given a day lift pass per person for a Scottish resort. Good theory, but in practice, it was expected that you would have to queue twice, for between 20 min and 30 min each time. That bit was not well organised. We had our Guide Dog trainee with us, and while threading through crowds was a really good traing experience, queing for nearly an hour was not something that I was going to subject him to. Big pre-season buzz, though! |

AndyH ~ Top Stats Man! I have often thought how useful this would be, but baulked at the work to trawl through and retreive the info.
This is a useful planning document, especially thinking about families and groups. I take it that in all cases these are high season prices? The document would have even greater value, if from time to time, you could add in other member info. eg: La Clusaz by graviteski, and keep it updated with issue dates. Just send the invoice to Admin! A separate column could give the costs for Seniors. Daved, I presume that these are senior prices? There is a senior price at Soll, but the minimum age is 80! The season pass for some of these resorts is little more than a two week pass, and I last paid 220 Eur for my season Wildschonau pass, but this may be about 230 Eu now. It was 520 Euro last year for the Kitzbuhel Allstar season pass. AndyH ~ 10 star man! |
