I have spoken to people who have influence and they have promised me the snow will come and the pistes will be sorted by the 22nd, job done! )

Take that as a no then! 11 more sleeps to go. Is it me or is this forum quieter this season?

I have lost more ski days through wind in high resorts than lack of decent snow in lower resorts.

Going there in 2 weeks had a great time last year.Anyone been there this season can give us a report?
Minor point but have Austria now brought in the smoking ban in bars. They introduced it in restaurants 2 years ago and I heard the bars were to be included this year. Even as a smoker some of the bars were uncomfortably smokey in Austria at times. |

Been to Schladming 5 times in the last 7 years late January. Have no fear about the snow. Even in the freak winter 4 years ago which was the mildest in living memory for most of the locals the pistes were still great. On top of this they have one of the biggest snow cannon systems in Austria 300 odd to make sure everything is ok. Put it this way even though it is a low lying resort you can ski down to the towns and the surrounding villages all the time.
Excellent skiing, not the British/Irish Apres of some resorts but plenty going on. You will enjoy it. |

Done both Soll and Mayrhofen in the past 2 years with both multi family and mature groups. Both were good but Soll would get my vote for the good intermediate skier on a number of factors.
Have you considered Schladming? been there many times and it was excellent, it is not British/Irish type young Apres though which might suit your needs and its easy to get to from Salzburg. |
