I would advise you to speak to the medics who are dealing with your son.
They may say it is perfectly Ok to Ski and they may advise on the type of brace/support he should wear. But you should find out the worst case scenario before making the choice, I can guarantee you he will be up for skiing though :) Also if it is of any help, my brother broke his leg wakeboarding. He had to have a plate fitted just below the knee. He cancelled a waterski trip to Florida just after the cast came off, and prompty tripped over a slipper at home and broke the top part of the leg  He would have been far happier waterskiing I can tell you. |

Well, I find Eurosport to be a great comfort. The winter sports coverage starts toward the end of October, and with the Olympics this year, there will be major snow overload for me in Feb.
I have really started to enjoy the Sports I guess people would not usually watch, like the Biathlon, Ski Jumping, Luge and Skeleton. Plus if you get really lucky, they show the summer versions of these events too :) Skiing on roller skis shows off the mountains in all their summer glory. I also now watch the cycling tours, especially for the mountain stages. It can be a real boost to my day to spot a 10' section of snow still hanging on in the shade in the middle of July up one of the big hills :) And my mates think I'm sad  |

Hi dixie dean.
My suggestion is to speak to someone in a shop, where you can explain how you like to ski, how you want to progress etc. They can also see your size and weight, then hire a set of what they suggest. See how you get on, and if needed swap them for another set. Most good resort shops will allow you to do this and then discount the hire cost against the ski purchase cost. For what it's worth, I like Volkl Skis as well for pure piste bashing, especially the racetigers. But I am a big guy, at nearly 110 kilos, so need something a bit stiff. However, the Atomic Crimsons are also a good Ski for me, and allow more variety in where I go without struggling. So it really can be down to lots of different factors, most of which are personal to you. TBH unless I was going to be doing more than 3 weeks a year, I prefer to hire. That way, I can get skis suited to the snow conditions, resort type and how I feel like skiing. I never have the same skis for a week, and will always swap at least once, so I feel I get the better deal. Hope that helps. FQ |

Looks fine Coop, you may even be able to jump a few lift queues with that look  On a serious note, does the zip also open from the bottom up? Or do you have to undo the whole front to do the man thing? |

Morning snowb4andit, just  , we are staying in the Sport hotel.
We are driving down on the 31st. I have had many questions already answered in another thread, and it was why I joined the forum  , but I was just looking to see if muddy could give me some last minute up to date info. Things like which are the busy bars this season, the good restaurants etc. an update on the conditions and lifts. Just general info to be honest. Feel free to add your welcome advice as well, I do take it all on board. Let me know your fav runs etc. |

Fair enough, a lot have said the same. But we had some poor service when we went to Saltlik. However, we found the Keg to be great. The service was excellent, and the steaks superb. We arrived in Banff a few hours late due to a departure delay in the UK and the Inns could only offer bar snacks, but they called down to the Keg, who agreed to keep the kitchen open as we were a party of 10, and they were really helpful and friendly. They were just as good when we went back later in the trip. I also really enjoyed the Sushi in the Inns, and thought it was good value. |
