Hi everyone
I am thinking of buying skis in the sales in March/April.
I am a getting to be a reasonable carver confident on blues, doing more reds and maybe the odd black on next 2 holidays early and late Feb. I have no plans (at the moment) to ski off-piste or intentionally through fields of moguls. I am 56 but in reasonable shape.
What make/models would you recommend? I don't mind a number of different suggestions but would appreciate it if you rated them 1, 2 etc. in order of your preference.
My wife may also buy some, so suggestions please for her. She is a reasonable parallel skier, but doesn't carve/go off piste/do moguls.
Many thanks
Dixie

Hi,

I've rented various ski's in the past. I'm a Salomon kinda of guy so would suggest the Salomon Aeromax. Don't be fooled by the cheap price, they are a very good ski for on-piste. Don't know much about other brands but i'm sure there's plenty more to pick from!

Last week I rented the Salomon X Wing Tornado's. Very good ski for turning and loads of grip. But didn't really like them at very high speeds as they started to vibrate alot. I ski both on and off piste so I look a good freeride ski. Looking at buying my own ski's at the summer sales myself too.

hey!
i nearly allways had fischer skis i love them! At the moment i have Fischer Slalom skis cs i like to do short turns! Fischer are supposed to be really good skis if u dont want to do very short turns can also go for some fischer with a larger radius.
Anyway a lot of people are Atomic fans, i dont like them very much my mum has a pair of them and im the same size as her so i tried them. They are very heavy skis and harder to turn then the Fischer ones!
If you ever go to do off-piste Fischer is also good for that u dont need special skis for mougles or powder!
Just Fischer is quite expensive...

Hi

I have been a fan of Volkl skis for a while.
For ladies Volkl Attiva range is rated very highly. Fischer skis are also a good choice.

Most brands of skis have good and bad skis as well as skis which will suit you and others which will be the wrong 'fit'.

Are you close to a snowdome? The best thing to do is to try some for yourself, it might surprise you the differences in feel between the pairs you do try. If you can't get somewhere to test I am sure that someone will be along with specific advice in a while...
