Glad you had a good week and got home ok. Incidentally we had no problems going by train, I even got some sleep
Interesting prices there, very similar to Val D'isere, although it depends which restaurant you go to, hot chocolate could be as much as 4 euros but the cheapest we found was 2 euros. Most expensive large beer was 8 euros (!), cheapest was 3 euros (at happy hour, 5 euros normally). A lot more people wore helmets there too, I did a quick check in the gondola one day and out of 12 people, 10 were wearing helmets, and luckily for hubby he was wearing his as he had a nasty fall on our last day and banged his head. Weather was atrocious I might add, no visibility and 2 foot snow drifts on piste. |

Getting fit for skiing

Now, now ladies. No arguing on my thread please.
So, sadly I'm now back from Val D'isere, had a fabulous week and thought I would report on how I felt after not doing so much in the way of getting fit for skiing and how I coped. As I have mentioned before, the only regular exercise I do is in the form of walking my dog, ie, not enough. I tried getting my bike out but it kept snowing, so I found that walking through deep snow for a week or so was quite good for my thighs and bottom, I also did a couple of weeks of leg/arm exercises before going. This was probably enough for ME, I don't consider myself to be particularly fit or unfit but I did feel fit enough to ski for a week. I didn't struggle (apart from the one day when I had a hang over) and the only aching muscles I had were my calves, but it wasn't so much that it hindered my skiing. I found a hot bath at the end of the day soothed any tired muscles, plus a reasonable nights sleep (apart from the night I had fondue and was woken by a scary cheese dream and refused to go back to sleep) was enough for me. But that's me, everyone is different and having started this thread some months ago I think this has been a useful exercise (no pun intended) to have monitored my often lack of enthusiasm for getting fit but doing just enough before going to enjoy my week. The end :D |

Have a good journey and happy skiing! Unfortunately I can't say the same for our car, its knackered and in a garage so we've had a mad panic today to find transport to Ashford tomorrow afternoon. Thank god for the in-laws.
Be safe :D |

Just the one sleep now. Although feeling slightly stressed having just heard our cars broken down, its currently in the garage and hopefully will be mended pretty damn quickly.
We can probably get a lift to Ashford but I don't know how willing people will be to get our dog to the kennels. He's a bit hairy. |

I'd forgotten about this thread  Although I have been quite good with my exercises, I've been busy packing / unpacking / repacking for the last few days which is quite exhausting in itself.
So the day after tomorrow (!!!!) I'll see just how 'fit' I am. |

I've never heard of that before. Are they suggesting that the hire shops in every ski resort are basically renting out crap? Why would they do that?
There must be someone on here that knows more. How much cheaper are you talking about anyway? Don't forget you'll have to pay carriage if you fly. |

Happy skiing to all those off this weekend! At least the snows gone (in this country) now :D
