I'd like to point out that adaptive skiing doesn't always mean sitski, and that a lot of adaptive skiers just need a little extra time to vacate the lift area, this is hard to solve with a device but easy to solve with good communication between the staff members operating the lift. eg, any special needs or person with musculoskeletal issues that might well ski upright would benefit from the chair slowing down signifigantly at the ramp.Disability does not only mean wheelchair.

Elastic bands covered in garlic butter... yuk.. My labrador is fond of elastic bands but I've never considered cooking them for him. Unless you have had the (dubious) pleasure of watching your dog sprint around the park trying to get away from the lump of poo that keeps twanging back and hitting him in the butt then you have no idea why this made me spit my coffee across the laptop and in my boyfriends ear! |

We went to Maria Alm last January, didn't stop snowing all week, Fantastic, ski school was very good, very pretty village, not the nightlife capital of the world but some decent bars and rests, cheap by alpine standards. Less than an hour from Salzburg airport, largely blue/easy wide reds, can do a circuit through other areas if competant on reds but enough locally for the early intermediate. I would gladly go again, friendly people, decent food. :)

The last 2 years we've been to Are Sweden in march and had plenty fresh dumps, mainly blue and red runs, ski school is excellent, not British run but no language barrier, I had an Aussie teacher and a major breakthrough in technique. Plenty decent meeting spots. More of an alpine feel than much of scandi.

Depends on your financial circumstances really, can you afford it? Can he afford it? How much does he contribute to the trip?(I mean is he fun to have around/helps with siblings/share the driving/clean up if self catering?)
At quite a young age I was encouraged to save for holidays from my pocket money to pay for ice cream, then, when I started work I had to start paying for everything other than travel/accom, it wasn't until I had finished education that I was expected to pay toward the actual travel/accom. My family was not well off, most holidays were either the Pontins/caravan park/staying with relations variety. We couldn't afford holidays abroad until my sister and I could pay our own way. I don't think there is a right age, now my sister and I take and pay for my mum to come away with us as she is retired, perhaps your son will do the same for you when he finishes uni? 19 is certainly not unreasonable! :D |
