Any resort recommendations in Alps for beginner skier? We are looking for a resort with a variety of beginner slopes that are snow sure in early January. We would also like a picturesque resort with good English speaking ski instructors. Our first ski experience was a week trip to Lech, Austria last year and we had a wonderful time. We are trying to decide if we should go back to Lech or go somewhere new this year. Is there a place that matches the charm of the resort and the ski experience?

Thanks for your help!

We went to Maria Alm last January, didn't stop snowing all week, Fantastic, ski school was very good, very pretty village, not the nightlife capital of the world but some decent bars and rests, cheap by alpine standards. Less than an hour from Salzburg airport, largely blue/easy wide reds, can do a circuit through other areas if competant on reds but enough locally for the early intermediate. I would gladly go again, friendly people, decent food. :)

Not really.
If you liked Lech, you'll hate Val Thorens or Tignes.
Personally, if you liked it that much, I'd go back and play it safe.

I would suggest either Alpe d'Huez or Serre Chevalier if it wasn't for the 'charm' aspect'! I love both these ski areas and they would both suit your requirements other than in the 'charm' department!!

You might take a look at Sauze in Italy. Good skiing for all abilities, nice food and drink at a decent price as you would expect in Italy - English speaking insturctors.
