This resonates, she sounds like a great lady.
I am welfare officer for the local disabled soccer club and manager/trainer in a bar, both are multi-generational. I have a long way to go with my skiing, but that's cool, I enjoy the challenge, people and scenery on the journey.(I make no apologies if that sounds trite, it's true!) With such a crazy work ethic (65 hours average) I don't know how to sit still, activity holidays allow me to relax and force me to accept that sometimes you have to give up control, that your not always right, that you can learn from the most unlikely source, that no matter how well you prepare things don't always go ok, you learn a lot by watching and listening, that it is fun to f*** up and theres no shame involved, that sometimes your best can be someone elses worst and that is fine! Love it, love it, love it! |

Thanks for the encouragement! I rarely have to hunt for a smile ever but skiing makes grin even harder than normal.
If ever you saw me on the slopes you'd know it! My helmet is covered in daisies and if my balaclava is showing it has mouse ears! |

Thanks for your replies folks,Mmm Baileys coffee sounds real good.
According to the WTSS the chair has been built and looking at the snowcast it will be approx 1m snow with more forecast, hopefully the low temps will continue so we don't get the closed link problem. If any of you had lessons whilst you visited is there an instructor/school you would recommend? I'm hoping to get a couple of lessons in, maybe off piste if conditions and my own (lack of) ability allow. ) |

Trencher, thanks for the translation! I reread my post, maybe should have done that BEFORE submitting it?

Due to incredibly weak wrists I unclip nearly everytime. Once managed (somehow!) to somehow roll over sideways and get my feet underneath me and as I was going at a decent speed somehow recovered my composure to a standing ovation. Unfortunately it was more by luck than design!

Some food for thought for sure, I'm timid intermediate at the moment, timid thru disability rather than scared of the mountain (respectful but not scared). I always try and book a couple of private lessons for my week of freedom.
Usually 1 after lunch the first day so I have had time to work out a few bugs on my own and give my feet a chance to get to know my boots and skis again, then 1 later in the week with same instructor to check I'm still heading in the right direction and have not fallen back in to bad habits or lazy style (style maybe a generous description). This seems to mean I feel better about my skiing at the end of every holiday, I may not be making amazing progress but I'm loving every moment in my tortoise like journey. I will probably not progress to expert level because of physical limitations however I'd like to ski red runs with confidence even when they are busy and I would like to try some easier off piste. We have a saying at work when coaching new team members, "constant gentle pressure" meaning we always try and make the newbie a little faster, a little tidier, a little more efficient, better prepared for the next challenge, looking ahead to see where the next customer is in the queue etc... A lot like what your suggesting don't you think? |
