I can't recommend any 'under the table' work (because I'd get shot) but it does go on, however if you are in need of a decent meal, offer your dish fish services to any of the UK run chalets and they will generally feed you.

Try the Chalet Wegscheider (across the field behind the main road through town), they are run by Equity Total ski (where I worked) and we had a number of guys washing up for us in exchange for dinner.

Worth it to save a few pennies. Good luck!

Great news about the job! I'm very jealous, I chalet girled for several seasons and still miss it now (12 years later).

You will have an amazing time with plenty of time to ski/board/recover from the night before. Well I did anyway. Its hard work, but you will play hard too, and hopefully your GF will visit and you can introduce her to skiing!

Let us know where you're off to when you know.

Yippeeeeee everyones back! Well, I went away for a while and sulked once the snow melted, and now the summers here I'm thinking about winter again so maybe its just me thats back.

Not booked anything yet, might get something last minute this winter and with my new job being more generous with their holibobs we might squeeze in a weekend somewhere too.

Ski package prices: book or wait ?

In general, they won't drop the prices until a few weeks before the travel date that I've noticed in the past. Sounds like you bagged a bargain. We'll be 'last minuting' this winter.

Looking at a couple of options, one being Les Arcs, the other 2 Alpes for next Feb.

Please advise on anything and everything (probably going to drive)

Tignes - Val Claret

Hmmm, I stayed there a few years ago and was pleasantly surpised by the amount of ski in and out there was. You could probably ski right into the centre if you wanted to, but if I remember rightly there are parts of it that can be a bit tricky to make it down to the main chairs, but more so on a board than skis.
I am sooooooooo excited!!!
