I remember about 3 years ago when I was at Schladming in Austria when me and a friend were about to get onto a 6 man chair. We had 3 local 5-6 year olds from a school class put on with us. Boys being boys they were wrestling and mucking about the the whole ride. Neither of us spoke very good German to tell them off as we were convinced we were going to loose one of them. When we got off we both of needed a drink, it scared us so much and these were complete strangers to us.
My thoughts are with the family.

Mayrhofen New Years

Have done Mayrhofen at Christamas 3 years ago. Really enjoyed it. Numerous drinking holes to choose from. The Austrian resorts will be very very busy on New Years Eve. Great skiing but you have to gondalla up and down the main mountain so be prepared to queue at these times.

First Ive heard of that, the bar has been ran by 2 different managers the last 2 seasons. Be suprised if the did stop music as without it would just be just an extention to the non hotel restaurant. Wr really like the The Salvenstadhl pub. Good mix of live music and it made such a difference with the non smoking mostly being adhered to in bars, and thats from a smoker.

Normal party of mature skiers going to the Postwirt in Soll late January. As its our 3rd year on the trot I think its safe to say we love the skiing and we are an experienced group of very good intermediate - advanced skiers and like the Apres just as much.
Heard today that even Soll as low as it is has 25cm at top and 5 cm at bottom.
Heard further good news that 'Frog on the Tyne' are playing their again this season.
Happy to answer any queries, just PM me.

Chances of Good Snow in January

Have skied in Austria in late January for the past 7 years at Schladming and Soll which are both relatively lower altitude resorts. Always had fantastic skiing mainly due to the weather but the Austrian resorts have fantastic snow canon infrastructure as a back up. You will be fine.
