Its looking pretty cold in the 3V where I go tomorrow -17 on Saturday. It normally doesn't bother me but Mr PSC is not good in the extreme cold.

Thumb it up?? There are plenty of people going up and down all day. If you get to St Martin you can get the local bus.

I will be arriving Friday night in St Martin - Thanks so much for the pictorial reminder of why I love the 3V so much. What type of GPS receiver do you use lesmen?

However I would warn it is not suitable for beginners or nervous intermediates. You have to be very careful which route you take down to VT if you ski mainly blues as there are some steep reds and blacks down if you take a wrong turn. It can be quite interesting crossing over from the chair to VT in horizontal snow and wind. Personally I love the long red down from the top of VT and would agree that it is steeper than some of the Blacks in VT. I have skied it that many times and achieved my fastest speed on it  The views over the Southern Alps are amazing. In fact in just two weeks I may be there again! Plan Bouchet can be interesting too particularly if it has not been bashed.

Sorry no - think about the resorts you pass on the way there....
I have never been to Megeve but have passed the road to it many times. In Winter you have to use the autoroute to get to Chamonix via Geneva so I would guess 1.5 to 2 hours. There is probably not direct public transport. Chamonix is quite spectacular and at about the same height as Megeve. The Vallee Blanche with a guide you would enjoy. I would consider staying there.

Pablo is right when he states the difference between French off piste and American - you just don't do it without a guide as the end of the piste is literally the end of the ski area!
