Used some X-Wings last season, but can't remember if they were the "6's" but definately the best pair of ski's I have rented and therefore the best I felt I have skied. It also helped that they were new and well tuned with sharp edges, had that many plasters on my hands at the end of the week.

The second trip a few weeks later the shop in that resort didn't have any and nothing felt the same and ended up changing the ski's 3 times in one day before settling on a set.

Would be good if they had a trial pair that you could use somewhere to make sure before you spend your cash.
Goggles

There are a few threads going on about goggles and the crux of it is you get what you pay for.

I have Oakleys, 4 years old now, and worth every penny had to change the lens this year due to scratching them last season so worth looking for that feature too.

However, you must ensure that they fit you properly and fit with your helmet if you are wearing one.

You need something that is comfortable but also, in my opinion, something that will last and I always will pay extra to get something that I feel is better quality and in the case of goggles lenses that will interchange either because you scratch them (like I did last year!) or you want different lenses for different light/conditions.

Spent out on some Oakleys and have never regreted it 3 or 4 years down the line.
Footbeds Query

Belt sander works wonders. Thats what I use to fine tune my foot beds. Even works to tweek the soft inner soles in trainers. Put the sander upside down in a vice, and have at it

Trencher

Trencher thanks, I can see what you are saying looking at the footbed though sadly I am no DIY boy, so no sander and no bench, I'll let the shop do it and if they mess up they can replace it!

Plus I'll get to go and have a 2 or 3 hour blast on the indoor slope there to get ready for Austria in 3 weeks, was a bit rusty for the first 20 mins or so on News Years day there.

I have an issue too with my footbeds, as I have discomfort in my left foot as that is being raised too high now after a foot problem I have so the left boot is too tight, but with the standard footbed that the boot came with in, it fits perfect but doesn't feel the same.

Might not get chance to get to Ellis Brigham in MK in the next 3 weeks before I go, but would make a real effort if they can be altered/lowered.

TC, it does depend on the material they are made from. Some are quite rigid and can be ground down with a dremel tool.
Alternatively, the base board in your boot could possibly be lowered a bit to make some space for your foot.

Thanks Bandit, they are quite ridgid especially under the arch, guess a trip to MK next Wednesday morning as a space has opened up in my diary to get it sorted and couple of hours on slope too!

Went there in 2007, definately plenty of area to cover but don't recall much of a park though there were a few jumps and kickers on the plateau with a couple of drags to get you back up, though they may have more as the snow was bad that year.

Try looking at www.physioroom.com, I have used this site loads to sort myself out with injuries mainly from football.

If you managed to finish the game and even the fact that you felt ok to go for a run over Xmas would appear to me it is not ligaments as you would know that and you wouldn't even attaempted the run.

Get yourself a good quality neoprene support and wear during the day, it can become a bit iritating and hot but the heat get more blood to the area and I have found it speeds up the repair process.

The knee shouldn't be unstable, but the pain can be annoying and generally you won't do any further damage just prolong the full heeling if you ski on it, so take plenty of Ibuprofen with you. 4 weeks should get you right anyway.

Best of Luck!
