Alistair, while I do not doubt any essence of your conclusions, I have a problem with how you get there. For example, it is self evident that strong torsional rigidity will grip hardpack, but ~what is maximum TR? Such a thing surely does not exist.
What does "optimal stability" mean?
Unique precision?
Smooth precise turns ~ on hardpack, let alone ice?
Ultimate agility? what does that mean?
Ultimate speed? Wow, that would be good.
I'm not going near Klothoid shape!!
What makes an intermediate ride like an expert, might include lessons, experience, technique, conditions........

I'm not having a go here Alistair, but I am not a fan of Ski-speak. On the other hand, I am more than willing to be educated.

Until then, my £49, (when brand new), Volkls, will rip down the Merchenwiess, in 2min 40sec. I have no doubt that Klammer would break 2 min, but then he is not a fan of Ski-speak, either.....

crispyapplepie wrote:Hi Tony_H it would appear your in the same category as me, i also am shopping for a new set of skis and have decided to purchase pair of Scott Crusades. Yes you budget wont stretch to buying you a new pair but there are some good deals on the 2010 mdel online which you can pick up for around £250/£400. I have done a lot of research over the last few months and it doesnt look like there are many skis out there that quite as much of a punch as these.

Hope this helps.

http://www.onthesnow.co.uk/gear/ski_reviews/a/99/That review doesn't say "buy them" to me. What made you go for them?

Tone you are completely right, after reading that review i wouldn't touch them either. But the model i was reffering to was the later 2010 model with the upgraded decals...Diamond pattern.

I was going off this review http://www.onthesnow.co.uk/gear/ski_reviews/2011/a/127/ as im after this years ski.

Tony
take a look at these, only problem they are a bit over your price guide.

you might be able to pick up 2010 model a bit cheaper.

Big fan of these skis, tested some last season.

In my defence Dave I am not a lover of ski-speak and I do not take responsibility for the above techno-ski-speak. This was taken from the advert part and parcel however, cutting through all of the bull. These are a fine pair of ski's as judged by test reviews I have seen and read. In fact, Trencher who owns a pair will no doubt endorse them. These were suggested as an option that Tony may wish to consider on the basis that for the price and technological features incorporated they are a bargain. However, as we know if you buy a child the latest toy they obtain more fun from playing with the package! ) I'm sure Mr Klammer would do them justice and I would certainly like a pair if I could afford them. :)

Don't worry Alistair, I knew you had used the wording from a write up.

Good suggestion re the Volkl's - they came up on my shortlist when I started investigating, although yes they are a bit pricey.

So, heres what I have come up with as a shortlist thus far. Any views welcome:

Head Peak 76 2010
Volkl Kendo
Rossignol Zenith 82
Atomic Panic
Armada El Ray
Salomon 1080 Thruster
Line Blend
Head iPeak 78
Scott Aztec Pro
Volkl AC20
Fischer Koa 75RF My Style
Scott Realm 08/09
Fischer Watea 84

Bit of a mixed bag, and quite different prices too!

Bit of a hard choice there, your going to bring that list down a number to make it easier for you to pick. I would say either Atomic,Volkl or Rossignol. I find there ski's to be quite good, and i was always satisfied with skis from those companies
