Not sure if it would be up your street Tony, but the Rossi Classic 80 is a ski that I want to try as a versatile carver. Would certainly rip on piste, but with an 80mm waist could stay up a little better in the soft stuff.

Hmmm, buying these would see you spend more of your time on piste.

I reckon you should take a look at the Head Peak 82 :D

(ps, note to Ross and his fat-boy friends - I do not want 100mm underfoot, thanks..... ))

That hurts me  to think you that I only come into that class-my on piste skis are a pair of Atomic GS 186cm factory skis (radius <27m and 76mm waist!!)

In all seriousness the Armada El Rays are the best ski I demoed at last years testing day-most fun, very very good edge hold for a twin tip-literally maxd them out and they still held!
only problem is I hated the Neos so maybe we are different? If it helps, I dont like the watea either but do like the Head 82. That Rossi one Trencher suggested is very soft I thought

Let us know what you get!! :D

Interesting, but it would be useful if you could go into more detail as to why.

The Head's are on my list, along with the Watea's, which both get superb reviews.

Something to bear in mind with twin tips... You are losing about 75mm of effective edge for a given ski length. This won't matter so much in powder, but makes a difference on piste, where effective edge is important to a skis grip. So if you seldom ski backwards, you are carrying around a lot of wasted ski just for looks.

i know this is a rash thing to do but I dont think i agree with trencher-im know you are right about the lack of effective edge on a twin but the El Ray I demoed was short for me-possibly the 171, im not sure. my point is they still were phenominal on piste-honestly better than your bog standard carver. I skied them directly after the scott neo and then went onto the punisher straight after and didnt like either of the scotts. (punishers were fun but horribly flappy-just a park ski)

tony-the reason i didnt like the neos (i think-it was a while ago) was because I just didnt feel comfortable and couldnt relax on them-couldnt trust them. They werent quick edge to edge on piste and werent solid enough in longer GS style turns, but I felt the tips and waist werent wide enough to be useful off piste. I just dont understand what sort of skiing they are designed for.

Maybe I just got a pair that werent tuned!!

How odd. I bought the Neo's specifically because they were supposed to be a true 50/50 ski with good edge hold, shorter turning radius, and because they would carry me off piste and in powder. Having skied them 2.5 weeks, they did everything I wanted them to, and I have to say from my perspective that the main thing I felt when skiing them was total confidence in terms of taking me anywhere, the power through the well balanced weight of the skis, and fantastic fun ON piste in terms of grip and speed edge to edge. I have to say that I was zipping short turns in no problem.
No, they are fair bit narrower underfoot than the El Ray, but this was my first mid fat ski, I was not looking for a freeride ski.
You should find Neo's are marketed as a 50/50 ski for people who ski on piste but also want to venture off it and ski powder, as they are wider underfoot. They are, if you have noticed, not a true twin tip either; the tails are hardly raised to increase edge hold on piste.

Anyway, moving on......maybe I will just keep the money and ski the Neo's and see how I get on with the running repairs to the tails, see if they the first weeks skiing, as thinking about it - they already give me everything I want from my skis currently.
