Yes Tino, but that is Milan Central, wheras the OP is going intp Malpensa. There will be link up and waiting times that take it up to at least the 4.5 hours. (Given that MM is 48km from Milan Central).
Having said that, this still appears to be a better opton than GVA.

I guess a lot depends on the time of flights as well. But the direct option sounds infinately better to me, far prefer trains to planes 'specially ones which dont go directly to your destination.

I agree Tino. Travelling by train in Austria and Switzerland carries it's own pleasure. Yeah, man, over the seasons, we have shared your train journey, drinks, downloads!!!!

An alternative to going via Milan Central would be to take the bus from Malpensa Terminal 1 to Domodossola 1hr 20min €11,50 (reservation required) http://www.comazzibus.com/eng_index.php and from there the train to Zermatt (change in Brig). You could also take a bus or taxi to Gallarate (a station on the Milan - Brig line 11km east of Malpensa) and get a train from there.

thank you guys for your replies.
it seems that Geneva is a more hassle free option. We might also consider another resort which is closer to Geneva. Grand massif might do it? any other good resorts within 1-2 hours from Geneva? we are more interested in resorts with lots of pistes and lots of downhill kilometers. altitude does not really matters as we are going in January which should mean that there's lots of snow even on lower altitude resorts. thanks once again
