Great report Tony. Never been to SC but sounds like it might be worth a visit.
By the way, did someone leave that old pair of Scotts on the bridge???

Those old Scotts did me ok for the week, esp off piste
The chalet was nice, in a good spot, and the food was better than the clubhotels.
Rocketski are really an arm of Equity ski who focus on schools and groups, and as such they are limited, but they were fine. Everything went smoothly.
The only disappointment was that wine was limited to a bottle per 3 people, and we were under the impression it was unlimited over dinner as usual for chalet holidays. However, beer and spirits are cheap enough so we provided or own drinks from the supermarket.
As for value for money.....we had such a good skiing holiday that I cant complain. However, when I compare it to the skiworld trips I have had, I dont think they compare at all, and I will definitely choose ski world in future.
I would not dismiss Rocketski, as they have one or two really nice hotels/chalets, but there are much better choices out there. I will however be avoiding Ski France like the plague - a complete bunch of idiots IMO.
HOWEVER, there is the possibility that if I get work I could still go, and in addition my good friend who we were going with has offered to cover costs for now, so I dont have to cancel, but I feel I should.
We were going back to Serre Che to stop in Briancon for 3 skiing days over Easter, only because its an easy drive, it was cheap, and because the snow is good.

I cannot recommend SC highly enough. Superb ski area, cheaper prices for France, ok the lifts need a lot of modernisation but go out of peak times and you are fine.Brucie wrote:Great report Tony. Never been to SC but sounds like it might be worth a visit.

Much much better than Auschwitz, I mean the Grand Aigle. And not much difference in price either on brochure rates.Dids1 wrote:How did you find Rocket ski this time? It sounds like you had no gripes - was it value for money?

I can see the only reason why more people dont go to SC is because of the old slow lifts. It is a superb ski area, and anyone who likes to get around a big area would absolutely love this place. Its also very good for beginners too with plenty of greens and some bunny slopes low down. The scenery is also stunning, and the snow has a great record of holding well early and late season.

Its a long story, but I am now out of work, and having only paid a deposit on an apartment, I would be better off not going and losing whats been paid rather than paying out more to go.betty wrote:nice one Tony

Great report Tony and thank you for leaving Serre Chevalier in such good condition for when we arrived on 13th March :D We also travelled on the Monarch Airbus 300 - plenty of legroom and very comfortable.
Grenoble slightly less chaotic than on previous trips - but I may be biased as our luggage seemed to arrive on a carousel about half an hour before anyone else's for some strange reason :D This was our fourth trip to Serre Chevalier in 10 years and this time we stayed in Monetier - and we absolutely loved it. We stayed in the Hotel de l'Europe in a little square close to the church. We left skis and boots overnight in the Consigne close to the main chairlift - 17 euros well spent in our opinion.
We didn't queue for anything all week and had blue skies, sunshine and cold temperatures most of the week which kept the snow in superb condition. The red down to Briancon was like icing sugar by the end of the week however. The blacks Casse du Boeuf and Pylons were superb, but my favourite run has to be Cucumelles.
The whole area is very understated and the locals are so friendly. Some of the chairs/gondolas could do with upgrading but we would certainly return to the area - especially Monetier.
Lovely sunny day here at the seaside so the ski boots are having an airing in the garden :D
