The only thing you need is perseverance! You'll have heavy falls and the balance is tricky at first bit you rapidly improve once you learn the basics.
Bon. Allez!

Welcome to the dark side. When you get on powder, it'll make the transition seem very worth while.
I don't think it would hurt to wear a knee support for snowboarding, at least until you know how your knee holds up.
Good luck

Stick with it Caron; the first two days can be a bit sore - all the boarders you see riding fluidly have been there - but once you start to get it you'll never go back to those heavy clumpy ski things....

2 of the lads who came to ADH with me are boarders. One a good one, the other had only done 1 week. The less experienced boarder found that boarding in fresh snow and powder was a revelation and he developed massively last week. However, he still struggled to get his foot round smoothly to turn one particular way on pistes for some reason.
Yes, I know - lessons....!!

thanks everyone, all taken on board
I'm suprised that right foot in front means goofy, I'd have thought right foot was more common which the term "regular" would infer :hunf:. I think I'll do some googling.
Tony, I assume that was one of your boarder mates in the clip on the scotts thread?
It's all booked now, 2nd Feb (two weeks today but I'm not counting, honestly!) and I've got four hours of private tuition booked for Arabba. I may do more - it's unbelievably cheap there .
I feel like a kid with a new toy

Yep, right foot in front is definitely goofy. No idea why
It is surprisingly difficult to lead with your 'wrong' foot!

I don't really like the term fakie, 'switch' works better. Fakie comes from skateboarding
