through the tolls, you can buy a telepeage transponder for 30 euros which is refundable. Online or
at any peage office, you need a uk credit card, well worth it imho.
(Search Sanef telepeage.)

The Dole ones (Etap and Ibis) are where we normally stay. They are all booked. I have search on the accor hotel website (Ibis, Etap and F1) and cannot find ANYTHING around Dole, Bourg en Brasse, Macon or even Dijon.
Have also tried Campanile.
Does anybody know of a private (not group) hotel that I might be able to get?

I tried Macon (2) and Bourg en Bresse (1)
Not sure why can't them, just type in your chosen town in the search and they come up.
Last year I sent us the wrong way (in my husband's opinion) down the a39. He conceded (eventually) it was far quieter than the 'main' route to Geneva and we came back that way. Very little in it distance wise.
Found it was a lot quieter travelling on a Sunday too.
When are you going?
