I think they said they went there last season but wanted to try somewhere else where you dont ski the same run all week.Stewart Dowling wrote:What about Niederau?

We had a great week in Mayrhofen & stayed in the Neuhaus Hotel which was really good accommodation right next to the skibus stop. Worth looking out for this hotel as it often is advertised within the late deals sections. Only down side to Mayrhofen can be the queue at the bottom Gondola Station in the morning, that said January is usually pretty quite.
Can recommend Soll ski area but have never stayed in accommodation there.
Alpbach is a great little resort with around 40kms of piste, very similar to Niederau in a lot of ways & is really picturesque. Hope this helps.

You'll find the town great for what you want and also the skiing once up there is excellent.
Tony H I agree that Mayrhofen is a fantastic ski town, I love Austria, we could not always guarantee being out early and the gondolla queue was a chore made worse by the fact that most people coming off the Penken had to use the same gondolla to get off the mountain as well and the queues were just as bad. With what there is elsewhere in Austria I will not be returning there. If Apres does not have to be a madhouse have a look at Schladming.

Dont worry about the gondola queue if you are there in January, provided you are there early enough you will be fine. In my opinion, that should not be the reason not to try Mayrhofen, but I do understand people wanting to be able to ski back to resort.ChrissyG wrote:Thanx all for advice im still waiting to book something. Not sure about Mayrhofen and the queue at gondola.A few other places a poping up Zell em Zillier,Ellmau and scheffau.Anybody got any thing on these resorts.

I'd love to go to Schladming. Ellistine is off there this season, and will no doubt give me the low down. However, for me Mayrhofen and its gondola are not an issue, and I have always been at a time when the max I have had to queue up or down is 5 minutes max. I guess you either got on it at the peak time when all the ski schools were going up or went at peak holiday time.
