What we did this year as long as you take a car is to pack some essentials, this year we just took a little bit more and we will do the same this summer in France, don't pay the prices and they will not be able to charge them

We tend to shop at the local Sherpa, Casino or Spar when we are in France and have no car, we only go to the big Inter Marche, if we have the car. Most of the time we are shoping just for the two of us so the cost is not so bad. We always try to shop local, because we had a small shop in our village at home that was more expensive than the nearest supermarket, and has now closed down. Small shops are a great place to meet locals home and abroad.

Bit of a generalisation Wickers, in N. we have three supermarkets, and one local shop. You can walk to all, except a ski bus to the furthest supermarket.

My favourite is the wee shop, Klingers. You can buy almost anything, there, although it's a bit like your front room, and back parlour. I learned a lot of my German in there. If you go there more than two years, you will be remembered, and they shake your hand. Beer from 2 Eu, wine from 3 Eu. Good wine 5 Eu. And then there is food, of course!

Prices cheaper than the UK in all 4 places.

But that Dave is not a general rule across the alps it all sounds very nice but supermarket prices are a lot more expensive in ski resorts, and it now comes to pass in a recession that people will not pay the inflated prices, I for one will take as much as I can with me,the point is I really don't mind paying more as I am on holiday but to be ripped off really pee's me off.

we're just the same here in blighty, go to any shop in a tourist area and expect to pay upto 10% more, it's simple economics, supply and demand. No-one likes being ripped off but as a brit we should be used to it
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

i've always wondered about this, i grew up just outside Dover so daytripping to calais to stock up was the norm, but it always surprises me that people drive the length of the country to jump on a ferry to stock up,the cost in fuel would be more than the saving alone, obviously if you can tie it in with a holiday that's great but it's not alwsys cheaper on the continent, especially with the current exchange rate, there are better deals to be had in the likes of Costco if you're prepared to shop around.
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!
